Job Purpose

To manage and meet planned volume and commercial targets in accordance with Quality and Safety standards. To be a role model for best practice at all times and through innovation deliver cost savings and provide support to the site.

Key Accountabilities

  • Create a sustainable method of communication that links at all levels within the business
  • Liaise with all group functions to resolve operational day to day issues and plan to prevent re-occurrence
  • Work with finance department to identify areas of spend, reviews and budget compliance / setting
  • To adhere to and promote best practice in accordance with company Health, Safety and Quality regulations
  • Provide a service based on Reliability, Quality and Repeatability, which is both measurable and auditable
  • To ensure that all areas comply with hygiene audits, both internal and external
  • To ensure all paperwork and systems are completed and accurate in accordance with company procedures
  • To ensure GMP (good manufacturing practices) and housekeeping (clean as you go) are strictly adhered to
  • Develop a highly focused and efficient operation at site
  • Challenge the ways of working and deliver through innovation cost savings. Monitor, control and minimise waste
  • To act as specialist for machinery knowledge
  • Ensure best practise is developed and used, constantly seeking improvements to layout, efficiency and stock integrity
  • Manage the output of assigned production and effectively deal with issues as and when they arise
  • Co-ordinate short & long term labour and equipment plans
  • Reviewing staffing levels by function, rotating staff accordingly in line with volumes
  • Monitor and manage team performance against KPI's
  • To undertake such other duties as may be required from time to time, that reasonably fall within the scope and grade of the post
  • To effectively motivate a team of people to meet production targets
  • Identify and mentor the FLM's and Key Players of the future.
  • Create strength in depth through the development of the teams.
  • Develop staff by training, mentoring and personal development plans
  • To participate in the company’s PDP program
  • Drive own personal development through training and work based experience To conduct disciplinary investigations in accordance with company procedure
  • Manage the site to achieve budgeted requirements and adopt continuous improvement
  • Support General Manager with achieving commercial vision
  • To undertake such other duties as may be required from time to time, that reasonably fall within the scope and grade of the post
  • Conduct disciplinary and grievance hearings in accordance with the companies procedures, and taking guidance from the HR Business Partner when necessary
  • Effectively manage staff issues to prevent issues being escalated
  • Set and monitor KPI’s of key production colleagues
  • Conduct and take part in performance reviews including setting KPI’s for Controller and Team / Line Leaders
  • Own recruitment process and succession planning in line with site operational cover and growth
  • Assist the HR and Training managers in the formulation of training and development plans for current staff and new starters
  • Coach, support and mentor colleagues within the sites and support the development of an empowering culture through employee engagement
  • Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • 5 years management experience
  • Level 3 Health & Safety qualification or above
  • Level 3 Food Safety qualification or above Average Weight Legislation knowledge
  • ILM Certificate (Desirable)
  • NVQ Level 3 Management (Desirable)
  • Ability to communicate in a positive and clear manner
  • Ability to act as a role model for new ways of working
  • Listen and encourage new ideas from others
  • Experience of working towards targets
  • Experience of working in a customer-led environment with changing priorities
  • Experience and knowledge of leading or applying Lean principles
  • Experience of managing operations across various locations
  • Experience of working within a production environment
  • Experience of working with packaging machinery
  • Experience of customer, BRC and ISO audits
