The successful candidate will be responsible for defining and managing the objectives of a team to support delivery of software balanced with the operational readiness, resiliency and quality standards of the OTT Reliability Engineering team.

We are seeking highly skilled individuals in this field who relish a challenge and who are passionate about building world class systems architectures.

What you'll do :

  • Manage the day-to-day prioritise of a team of Site Reliability Engineers, delivering new systems, and supporting existing production-critical systems, and participate in the on-call rota.
  • Manage the budget for the team and ensure that Sky gets good value from its team and tooling.
  • Support, maintain and improve the integrity, security and reliability of Sky’s existing systems.
  • Ensure the team is structured to deliver systems that are fully automated (throughout their entire lifecycle), designed for failure, kept as simple as possible, defined as code (IaC) and have security as a first-class citizen.
  • Collaborate with software delivery stakeholders to support departmental delivery objectives.
  • Collaborate with architects and software engineers to ensure new systems are engineered according to SRE best practise
  • Ensure the team is aware of and adheres to Sky’s Change, Incident and Problem Management policies.
  • Ensure that Sky security policies are adhered to and the team is aware of its responsibilities
  • What you'll bring :

  • A background in technology architecture, design, and development with demonstrable role progression. It is important that the candidate can understand the bigger picture of application / API design, as well as overall systems design.
  • Experience with Kafka is essential.
  • Experience managing engineering teams.
  • Experience engineering code in at least one high-level programming language, using software configuration management (git etc)
  • Experience administering operating systems (including virtualised, bare-metal, cloud and container), networking and persistence technologies.
  • Experience building highly automated infrastructure using modern tooling (e.g. Ansible), and immutable, everything-as-code methodologies.
  • Understanding of modern DevOps and SRE processes and methodologies
  • Great communication skills able to engage with and explain complex technologies to senior stakeholders.
