Duration : Permanent, Full time

Aberdeen City Council are looking to recruit a permanent full-time Legal Team Leader to manage their property legal team, consisting of solicitors and paralegals.

This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified candidate to lead in an ambitious and progressive service, which deals with a large client base, and a highly varied workload.

The post will include involvement in large scale projects such as the city regeneration project, the new harbour expansion and community asset transfers, giving legal advice to Elected Members at various Committees, and attending various management meetings.

The suitable candidate would have experience in conveyancing and commercial property. The candidate would have strong leadership skills, and be approachable, communicative and supportive in their role as a manager.

The candidate should be able to work closely with the other Legal Team Leaders, and the Legal Services Manager, and be able to provide support and guidance where required to senior management.

The post holder must hold a current unrestricted practicing certificate from the Law Society of Scotland at the date of commencement of employment with the Council.

Job Purpose :

To lead and manage a team delivering the provision of a professional legal advice and representation service to the Council, and other organisations as authorised by the Council, and to provide guidance as required.

To provide a 'right first time' customer and solution focused service based on the principles of continuous improvement, professionalism, integrity and best value.

To co-ordinate and lead the legal input into corporate priorities as required.

Assist in developing a team which is flexible, accessible, approachable and solutions focused.

Requirements

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum :

Admitted as a solicitor in Scotland and holding a Practising Certificate from the Law Society of Scotland.

Detailed working knowledge and experience of relevant current legislation and practice in areas of law advised upon by either of the Property, the Planning and Environment, the Governance, the Litigation or the Licensing team.

Relevant degree or professional qualification.

Critically evaluate information, data, and situations to assist in problem solving.

Evidence proficiency in analytical, research, investigative and drafting skills.

Delegate decision making responsibly and demonstrate trust where appropriate.

Motivate and inspire others.

Ensure personal performance objectives and standards are achieved.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external partners to secure best value and outstanding results.

Provide solution focused advice with the appropriate exploration of associated risks.

Prioritise effectively, working to deadlines and planning of workloads and the ability to work on a number of initiatives at one time.
