Local Unit & Position Description
The Renewables Ecosystem Department provides software products and services for renewable energy experts across the world and works together with DNV GL consultancy colleagues at the cutting edge of renewable energy technology.
Our software helps our customers get the most out of their wind turbines, wind farms, solar farms and new technologies including tidal and energy storage.
The Renewables Ecosystem team is responsible for designing, creating and running the applications & services relied upon by engineers across the renewable energy industry on desktop, web and mobile platforms.
Beyond the department we also make use of many other capabilities within the DNV GL software business, for example marketing and sales, for effective global reach.
User experience research, design and testing are integral parts of the way we work, and we are now looking for a versatile and experienced UX professional to work within the Renewables Ecosystem UX team.
In particular we are looking for a candidate who is comfortable with technical software in which ever more functionality is being delivered through APIs.
This individual will play a key role in our drive to lead on user experience and customer-centricity across our software portfolio and our growing range of digital services.
Based in Temple Quay in Bristol, our software team creates the technical applications that wind and solar power engineers rely upon every day.
This might be software for creating a huge solar farm in the desert or helping our engineers to monitor the performance of wind farms around the world.
Our software ranges from sophisticated desktop design applications, to customer-facing web dashboards to mobile apps assisting engineers as they work in the field.
Areas of Responsibility :
As UX Designer for the Renewables Ecosystem, you will work alongside another UX designer and as part of the team be responsible for the user experience a number of digital products and services, helping several product owners and teams of developers to better understand their users, to choose features and improvements based on user needs and value, and to achieve excellence in product design.
You will become a go-to expert for user experience design advice, and will be expected to split your time between several projects to guide and advise multiple development teams, to help us continually push forward the way we work by bringing in new methods and ideas, and to be truly passionate about your chosen field, going the extra mile to teach others and evangelise about the benefits of good design.
You will also be called upon to assist in the creation of new products, helping teams to establish and rally around a user-
focused product vision, building prototypes and helping them to communicate their ideas to the rest of the company through sketches and mock-ups.
This is a role that requires a confident and proactive design professional whose enthusiasm and determination sets the standard for others to follow.
You will need to show expertise in the entire design process and to comfortable teaching others and explaining the way you work.
You will work regularly with both customers and software teams around the globe, and should be used to conducting face to face research and testing as well as facilitating workshops and Design Sprints.
This role requires someone with experience in the entire design process, from user profiling, research and interviews, through product scoping and information architecture definition, to detailed UI design through to usability testing and application of metrics.
You will work mostly with product owners to help them scope and roadmap their products, and also work embedded in Agile development teams, collaborating with developers to ensure design vision is delivered and conducting user testing to inform teams and help them iterate.
You will be expected to follow an evidence-led process and be able to show how user insights have been translated into good products, proving quality through testing and customer contact.
