You will lead and shape a wide range of organisational development projects that will enhance the University’s ability to deliver excellence, creativity and impact through its people.

In particular you will play a key role in building leadership and management skills across the University, creating an engaging and coaching culture and embedding the values and guiding principles in everything we do.

As the OD Lead for Strategic Projects you will ensure that we build the capability and capacity of our people in line with our Vision and Strategy.

You will have strong organisational and project management skills and excel at building strong working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

You will be able influence across all levels, and bring ideas and new thinking to generate enthusiasm and commitment for change.

You will have extensive experience of delivering a wide range of organisational development interventions, in particular projects focused on embedding values and leadership development.

This is a part time position, 4 days per week or 32 hours per week. The hours can be worked flexibly in a pattern to be agreed.

Key Accountabilities

Operational Management

  • To partner with Leaders, Managers, OD Leads, People Service Business Partners and other senior stakeholders to scope, design deliver and evaluate organisational development strategic projects to meet the critical people needs of the University.
  • Work collaboratively and flexibly with colleagues in People Services and across the University to deliver OD and learning requirements across the range of strategic plans and enablers.
  • Build and oversee key strategic partnerships to ensure the highest standards of service delivery, cost efficiency and delivery of outstanding value.
  • Articulate measures of success and hold yourself and the team accountable to the objectives and outcomes.
  • Line manage, lead and support members of the OD team as required, creating the conditions for them to be the best that they can be and deliver against agreed goals, priorities and outcomes.
  • To deputise for Senior roles in the team as required.
  • Culture and Values

  • Design ways to articulate the University’s strategic narrative that are compelling and engaging.
  • Scope, design, deliver and evaluate OD and learning projects that seek to embed the values and guiding principles within the Culture of the University.
  • Support colleagues to ensure that our people processes in particular and operational processes in general are fully aligned with our employer brand and University Values.
  • Leadership and Management Development

  • Ensure the leadership and management programmes are underpinned by a sound understanding of need and demand and that all the elements of the overall offer evolve to reflect this.
  • Manage an effective nomination process that is supported by the OD Faculty Leads to ensure effective succession and talent conversations take place.
  • Design and deliver on programmes as required and in particular have responsibility for the University’s approach to building a coaching culture.
  • Advise, train, coach and support colleagues across the University on leadership and management development strategies.
  • Employee Engagement and Experience

  • Have oversight of our approach to colleague engagement and experience, including the end of end management of the University’s survey provision.
  • Work alongside colleagues in People Services to ensure that we have a fully articulated employer brand that brings the University Strategy and Values to life for its people.
  • On an annual basis work with University Executive Board to agree a plan for large scale employee surveys, having oversight of plans for communication and dissemination.
  • Work with colleagues across the University to enhance the quality and join up of insight, data and intelligence from engagement and survey initiatives.
  • Learning and Development

  • Have oversight of the open learning programme (OLP) and continually evolve the provision to ensure it meets the current and future requirements of the University.
  • Ensure that the OLP is designed and developed with the user experience in mind and continue to progress the single shop window’ approach to learning and development opportunities across the University.
  • Utilise data and metrics to understand the impact and value of the OLP and use this to regularly report on progress and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure all contracts for provision delivered under the OLP comply with all procurement and regulatory requirements and represent excellent value for money.

    Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Extensive experience of designing and delivering across a broad spectrum of organisational development and learning interventions.
  • Track record of leading and managing projects in complex organisations, with a proven ability to deliver on cost, quality and time requirements.
  • Experience of designing and delivering leadership, management development and coaching programmes at a variety of levels.
  • Experience in influencing culture change and working on projects that have had a demonstrable impact on the culture and values of organisations.
  • Thorough understanding of employee engagement and practical experience of working on engagement activities, in particular the use of engagement surveys.
  • Evidence of and passion for engendering an inclusive working environment.
  • Proven track record on innovation; you keep yourself up to date on trends in the wider OD and learning world and implement these as a matter of course.
  • Strong data analysis skills, proven ability to use metrics and data to support critical thinking and improvement of the service.
  • Knowledge and experience of psychometrics and the use of these methodologies in development.

  • Qualifications

  • Member of CIPD or working towards or relevant professional qualification.
  • Level 5 Coaching qualification or equivalent.
