About the role

An innovative Contract Manager responsible for all aspects of operational delivery of a 38m annual turnover Highways and Street lighting contract.

Accountable for operational excellence, building effective relationships with Warwickshire, Solihull and Coventry clients and ensuring that budgets, resources & strategies are in place to ensure long term profitability and expansion of the contract.

Supporting third party growth team.

What you'll be doing

As a Contract Operations Manager, you will have the following accountabilities :

Finance / Operations

Ensure compliance with all statutory and company procedures across all the functions, H & S specifically, embedding a culture of Zero Harm

Manage a defined area of the contract P&L and balance sheet with responsibility for implementing the Divisional business plan within this area.

Deliver / improve upon agreed margins and cash flows.

Lead, review and challenge budgets and forecasts to ensure consistent, challenging but deliverable approach adopted.

Manage performance of Capital and Revenue areas to ensure performance meets set targets.

Provide the necessary data and interpret management information in order to monitor performance.

Ensure and improve the delivery of service excellence across the account through maximising efficiency and effectiveness, actively sharing best practice and seeking opportunities for profit improvement.

Ensure efficient management of resources; employees, fleet, suppliers and subcontractors

Ensure that business imperatives are clearly communicated and understood throughout the defined contract area and to others, as appropriate.

Supports and contributes to continuous improvement.


Develop effective working relationships with the wider Balfour Beatty group, business partners, suppliers and sub-contractors to improve operational performance

Deliver / improve upon agreed margins and cash flows

Ensure the Operational business area is robust reference sites for bids.

Customer / Market

Understand, anticipate and deliver client requirements.

Support and implement a culture of customer centricity.

People / Organisation

Maintain a framework for performance management, succession planning and the development of people in the sector

Manage supply chain to deliver service excellence and profitability.

Support and reflect the One Team culture within the business.

Ensure a culture of compliance

Create a culture within the Operational team based on pride and ownership

Drive accountability throughout the team and management of poor performance A

Ensure all staff are developed and trained appropriately to carry out their work to the required standards

Who we're looking for

You will have the following :

  • Previous contract management experience of contracts with an annual value of 20m+
  • Operational or technical experience
  • Highly motivated to deliver customer satisfaction
  • Self-motivated to achieve a high level of performance
  • Demonstrate leadership skills that will inspire the team to succeed
  • Good financial acumen with a proven knowledge of budgetary control and Profit & Loss accounts
  • Sound understanding and experience of risk assessment / management
  • Demonstrate an ability to successfully lead an operational team
  • Experience in the efficient and effective management of resources
  • Commercial Awareness understand cost of doing business, SLAs and KPI;
  • Understanding of works programming
  • Good interpersonal skills; communication, can provide clear direction,
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Adaptable to changing situations
  • The following qualifications are desirable :

  • Degree preferable
  • HNC or equivalent in civil engineering or related top
  • Manager CSCS card
