About the Opportunity :

Considering the increased interest and focus on immune-oncology in cancer therapeutics, we’re looking for a highly interdisciplinary Postdoc Fellow to develop a new generation of immuno-oncology targeted delivery systems within AstraZeneca’s Advanced Drug Delivery,

Pharmaceutical Sciences, based in Cambridge, UK.

This is an exciting multidisciplinary postdoc position to work on various aspects of immune-targeted nanomedicine design, including developing new ligands for immune-oncology targets conjugating these ligands to a nano-carrier and optimising the targeted drug delivery system to improve selectivity and activity in vitro and in vivo.

You will be exposed to an array of techniques, from immunology to protein engineering and cell biology. Whilst the postdoc is based within our Advanced Drug Delivery team, you will have the chance to collaborate with several other departments at AZ, truly being connected to this vibrant and cross-functional environment.

The Postdoc will be mentored both internally at AZ by experts in each field and by a collaborator within the University of Cambridge, who will guide important aspects of the project, especially the in vivo models.

Essential Education and Experience :

  • Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (such as Immunology, Biochemistry, Biology or Drug Delivery)
  • Fundamental understanding of biology, immunology, drug delivery and protein engineering
  • Experienced in cell culture and in vitro methodologies development
  • Experience working with animal models (especially xenografts models)
  • Ability to effectively communicate, network and collaborate in an interdisciplinary environment
  • Track record of scientific publications and presentations
  • Demonstrated proficiency in speaking and writing in English
  • Desirable Qualifications :

  • Experience working with nanoparticles / nanomedicines
  • Competence in cellular trafficking, pharmacokinetics and protein conjugation
  • Ability to tackle complex scientific problems and troubleshooting.
  • Key Skills and Capabilities :

  • Experience in immune cells activation / proliferation assays, cell migration and chemotaxis
  • Skilled in flowcytometry, cell culture and sorting, ELISA, immuno-histology and Immunofluorescence
  • Familiar with confocal microscopy and desirable in electron microscopy
  • Experience in protein expression, purification and basic characterisations
  • Experienced with data analysis and statistics
  • Ability to plan and conduct research independently
  • Excellent communication skills and experience of publication writing
  • This is a 3 year programme. 2 years will be a Fixed Term Contract, with a 1 year extension which will be merit based. The role will be based in Cambridge UK, with a competitive salary on offer
