We seek a talented Strategic Development and Enterprise Lead to provide highly effective leadership at The Healthcare Improvement Studies Institute (THIS Institute).
Co-created by two exceptional organisations - the University of Cambridge and the Health Foundation - THIS Institute aims to create a world-
leading scientific asset for the NHS by strengthening the evidence-base for improving the quality and safety of healthcare.
The Institute hosts around 40 staff, including academics, research, operational and communications staff and visiting research fellows.
It has strong links across University of Cambridge departments, with RAND Europe, a not-for-profit Cambridge-based research organisation, and with Homerton College, Cambridge, as well as with multiple external partners.
The post-holder will lead strategic development and enterprise functions at THIS Institute, with a particular, but not exclusive, focus on the development of the Institute's online citizen science platform (currently in development).
The platform makes it possible for NHS patients, staff and members of the public to get directly involved in research about improving healthcare.
THIS Institute's goal is to establish the platform as a key asset with national reach in the generation of high-quality evidence about healthcare.
The role-holder will also be responsible for building a long-term funding and sustainability strategy for THIS Institute and for providing strategic oversight of the Institute's education and training offer.
A key member of THIS Institute's Senior Management Team, the individual will be expected to work collaboratively with the Director and colleagues and develop strategy using flair and creativity, to foster strategic partnerships with multiple external stakeholders in the NHS and to pro-
actively identify and respond effectively to new opportunities.
Candidates must have an honours degree and extensive experience in business development, digital leadership or academic research, including successful leadership and delivery of complex multi-
stakeholder programmes. The post-holder will have the vision, creativity and motivation to shape the strategic agenda of THIS Institute, as well as the ability to command credibility and confidence as a senior leader within the University of Cambridge and externally with NHS senior leaders, professional bodies, charitable groups and funders.
The funding supporting this position has been secured until 31 March 2022 in the first instance, with the possibility of a further extension of five years.
The post holder will be based at THIS Institute (The Healthcare Improvement Studies Institute), University of Cambridge, Cambridge Biomedical Campus, Clifford Allbutt Building, Cambridge CB2 0AH (approximately 2 miles south of city centre).
