We are currently recruiting a Banker who will take responsibility for and lead the coverage of selected public sector entities across Sub-

Saharan Africa, including multilateral financial institutions, government ministries, central banks, existing or nascent sovereign wealth funds, policy-

oriented financial institutions, public pension funds, and selected state-owned enterprises with close ties to their respective governments.

The successful candidate will also provide leadership and content on other public sector accounts, in partnership with resident bankers and J.

P. Morgan's wholesale lines of businesses, to deliver the firm's product capabilities to all public sector clients, including governments, public pensions, and policy-

oriented financial institutions. The Banker will be part of the Global Corporate Bank's Public Sector Group and will report functionally to the Global Head of the group and locally to the Head of the Global Corporate Bank in Sub-

Saharan Africa. The role will ideally be based in London, though consideration will be given to candidates domiciled in other locations.

Core Responsibilities will include :

  • Assume primary relationship management for a large number of public sector entities, and develop relationships with promising client prospects.
  • Develop and maintain relationships typically at the senior level, up to and including central bank governors and ministers, and CEOs of relevant public sector institutions.
  • Work in partnership with Investment Banking (Debt Capital Markets, Advisory, Infrastructure Finance and Advisory), Markets Sales (FX, Fixed Income, Commodities, Futures and Options), Investor Services (Custody and Fund Services, Securities Lending and related investor products.
  • Transaction Services, Trade, Asset Management, and other lines of business, to develop, market and execute client business.

  • Drive account planning processes, pipeline management, and revenue growth for clients in the public sector franchise in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Serve as the client's chief sponsor within J.P. Morgan, to assure high levels of client service, appropriate lines of credit, and resolve documentation issues that could arise
  • Keep abreast of financial market developments of relevance to the client set, including new trends in reserves growth and management;
  • strategic financing and hedging techniques; rationalizing and making efficient the provision of financial services to public sector entities.

  • Participate as a senior member of the Global Public Sector Group, sharing financial challenges and transaction ideas to resolve them, learning best financial practices of public sector clients globally, and disseminating ideas to African clients.
  • Organize training and other related events; ensure client participation at the right level for other JPM events, etc.
  • Ensure full compliance with all J.P Morgan regulatory requirements, including Know Your Customer (KYC), as well as appropriate concern for an effective control environment and sensitivity to reputational risk.
  • Key Qualifications :

  • Proven ability to create, develop and maintain trusted client relationships, as evidenced by having a valuable professional network with this client set.
  • Knowledge of markets and / or economics; must be able to articulate JPMorgan views at a high level
  • The ideal candidate would have experience working with or for public sector entities, whether at the international, national or sub-national level.
  • Experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa, and a good knowledge of financial / economic challenges of countries in the Region is key.
  • Effective business person, who can develop viable strategies to grow the overall business with this client set, as well as taking pragmatic steps to execute these strategies to win new business and close transactions.
  • Understanding of key products used by this client set, in particular, fixed income (credit, rates, and project finance techniques), flow derivatives, FX, commodities, cash management and payments, custody and integrated reporting, and financing products
  • Experience in an investment-related business (sales and trading, asset management, custody, and securities-related financing) would be very helpful given the nature of the client set to be covered and the opportunities to develop additional business
  • Flexibility to travel frequently in the region
  • Ability to navigate across large organizations to get things done and broker information across the firm; ability to form strong partnerships and work in environments where there are multiple, overlapping stakeholders
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to work in both French and English strongly preferred.
  • This role encompasses the performance of UK regulated activity. The successful candidate will therefore be subject to meeting UK regulatory requirements in the assessment of fitness, propriety, knowledge and competence (as assessed by the Firm) and (where appropriate) approval by the UK Financial Conduct Authority and / or the Prudential Regulation Authority to carry out such activities.
