The LAIV Virology Group is accountable for generating and characterising candidate vaccine viruses by reverse genetics technology, as well as advancing our fundamental understanding of LAIV virology.
The team work on research programmes that support the commercial vaccine product, providing specialist molecular biology, cell biology, immunology and virology expertise to the organisation.
Your focus joining the group will be on describing key drivers of LAIV mechanism of action, including investigation of haemagglutinin protein structure-
function relationships in LAIV development. You will also contribute to core strain development activities in support of annual delivery of the vaccine.
You will conduct and participate in projects that are complex and scientifically demanding within the virology / immunology / molecular biology sphere.
Make detailed observations, analyses data, and interpret results Demonstrate scientific rigor in assessing your own data and that of others Have the responsibility of meeting project goals with time and budget constraints.
Lead other scientists or associates, providing scientific and technical expertise and mentorship Author and Supply to scientific publications, patents, regulatory submissions Effectively present results while attending internal and external scientific meetings A doctoral degree with emphasis on virology, microbiology and / or bioengineering is required.
Post-doctoral work experience in a R&D environment with virology focus and integrally involved in laboratory scientific experimentation Biopharmaceutical experience preferred Demonstrated experience supervising junior scientists and influencing stake-
holders Demonstration of scientific experience via publications and presentations Strong scientific background in virology, molecular biology and vaccines Experience in influenza virus vaccines is desirable AstraZeneca is an equal opportunity employer.
