Why this role matters

  • The Consumer Customer Facing Unit (CFU) delivers over £10bn of revenue and £2.4bn of EBITDA for BT Group. The CFU has three consumer brands;

    The Mobile Network Procurement team is responsible for the world class procurement of all mobile network requirements (including equipment, software and associated services for the Radio Access network, Core network, Service Platforms, Transmission) which are fundamental to delivering the mobile network.

    Mobile Network Procurement builds strong relationships with both internal customers and external vendors and coordinate and communicate company requirements across multiple teams.

    In addition, we deliver against corporate initiatives related to cost reduction and cost avoidance, revenue improvement and growth and manages high visibility negotiations to meet business objectives.

    Working within a team of procurement managers reporting to the Senior Procurement Manager Core, RAN and Service Platforms to support Mobile Network procurement requirements.

    The PM role will have accountability for management of commercial and contractual issues relating to a subset of Mobile Network requirements (that could be across the radio access or core network, service platform and / or transmission associated hardware, software and services).

    The role will manage and lead world class procurement and vendor negotiation strategies which drive maximisation of ROI and minimisation of TCO (across all areas of Quality, Delivery, Cost, CS and Responsiveness).

    Providing internal EE / BT customers with a commercial Centre of Excellence pertaining to all mobile network requirements and managing the commercials and contracts with key suppliers to drive EE’s competitive position and manage risk.

    The role will work closely with design and operational leads in the Technology CFU to commercially manage vendors and ensure engagement, alignment and clear communication with the internal stakeholders across the business, on strategic commercial plans approach and strategy, to deliver full potential.

    The role also needs to closely align with colleagues in BT’s Fixed Network procurement team, ensuring leverage is maximised and where suitable a common, unified BT message is discussed with common suppliers.

    The role may additionally involve interaction with MBNL, a JV owned by BT and H3G.

    The role will involve commercial management and leadership of key projects relating to Mobile network requirements including RFP and RFI processes, including management and adherence to governance required and alignment of sign-off framework.

    What you'll be doing

    Sourcing, negotiation and management of key category contracts and projects, acting as a SME in these business areas and commodities

    Managing complex supplier relationships through different areas of the business internally including Technology and Finance, Legal, Security, Data Protection

    Recommend and execute procurement strategy for owned suppliers and categories

    Manage and own regular commercial meetings with defined vendors, to ensure engagement, alignment and clear communication with the internal stakeholders across the business, on strategic commercial plans approach and strategy, to deliver full potential.

    Business Issue / Risks Escalation facilitate key escalation across the managed suppliers on all Commercial, Quality, Responsiveness, Innovation, Delivery and Cost

    Leading the procurement process within a large complex organisation, successfully delivering cost saving initiatives, whilst improving the quality of goods and services received

    Work as a Business Partner, engaging with senior stakeholders across multiple CFUs

    Accountable for drafting and delivery of robust and appropriate supply contracts ensuring all business activities are carried out in accordance with local legislative requirements, which enhance and protect BT for now and the future.

    PM role requires deep understanding of mobile category market and key players within

    Ability to work well in cross functional teams and develop strong working relationships, alongside challenging stakeholders where required

    Influence and persuasion skills to Lead, negotiate and provide key commercial input into key strategic business projects and business change including RFI and RFP Management

    Ability to negotiate a range of contractual requirements and build suitable contracts

    Strong analytical skills working with complex commercial offers, changeable budgets and updated saving targets

    Ability to quickly establish credibility and respect and build strong working relationships, such that the internal customer involves Procurement from the conception stage of third party deployment.

    Demonstrable professionalism with a proven ability to operate in a complex, fast paced matrixed business environment.

    Patience and experience of navigating large, complex organisational structures

    Able to deal with ambiguity, identify resources to implement and determine pragmatic solutions

    Maximise through negotiation all savings and commercial benefits on behalf of EE Mobile network requirements.

    Responsible for tracking, assessing and driving performance improvements, acting as a contact point for escalations and issues, through to resolution.

    Responsible for monitoring financial stability, market competitiveness and performance.

    Ensure the delivery of robust and appropriate supply contracts which meet the commercial needs of the business and protect EE’s interests in contract.

    Contract Term Negotiation leads - Interface between Technology supplier and EE / BT on all contractual discussions / disputes.

    Responsible for contract and commercial documentation drafting and amendment, including contract alignment and audits.

    Requisition Approval - Responsible for raising / approval of a portion of the significant mobile network budget.

    Ensuring compliance and regulatory requirements are appropriately contracted (e.g. Security, Ofcom, Home Office).

    Excellent negotiation and commercial skills with proven track record of delivering cost savings

    Research and analytical skills to expose the key drivers of any market

    Proven experience in category management covering Technology / Engineering categories including tendering and contract management.

    Proven ability to initiate and lead negotiations. Manage high value (£5m ) spend contracts in a multi-stakeholder environment.

    Strong and proven organisational skills with ability to handle multiple projects in a fast paced and dynamic environment.

    Experience of senior stakeholder management working with the directors of the unit to implement the strategy

    Good level of understanding of contract law and key clauses e.g. TUPE, EU GDPR.

    High standard of Microsoft skills (Word, Excel, Power point)

    Supplier Relationship Management skills at senior level up to MD level

    Educated to degree level and / or extensive strategic procurement experience across industry and in a large company environment.

    Display excellent influencing skills

    CIPS or equivalent professional qualification
