Specialist Occupational Therapist - Environmental Controls
This is an exciting opportunity for a long term position within thiswell establishedand respected regional service which provides Electronic Assistive Technology equipment throughout North London and Hertfordshire from its base at the Alderbourne Rehabilitation Unit, Hilllingdon Hospital West London.
We are looking for a motivated and innovative individual who would likemake a real difference to people’s livesthrough the provision of Environmental Control Systems and computer access equipment, enabling the most severely disabled members of our society to remain in control of their immediate home environment and retain access to computer technologies.
Experience Job variety and a high level of autonomy,as you will be visiting clients in their homes, undertaking complex assessments and co-ordinating equipment provision in conjunction with suppliers and other specialist and community services.
You will be involved in providing training to other professionals, clients and family and in evaluating the effectiveness of equipment provision to meet client centred goals.
This post is therefore an opportunity to gain valuable experience in working with patients with complex disabilities and their families and to liaise with other local and regional services.
Required, is an interest in enabling people to use technology for living independently. Experience of working with neurological and other severe physical disabilities is essential.
Confidence with technology is beneficial, although full training on equipment will be provided. Travel to community home visits within the designated area is a significant part of the role and a driving licence is also essential.
Administrative and systems supportfor the role are provided through the Multi-Disciplinary Team of the service, which also includes Occupational Therapists, Rehabilitation Engineers & Technicians and the Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine.
Supervision supportis provided by Band 7 Occupational Therapists within the services as well asprofessional development opportunitiesthrough the strong network of EAT services nationally and the hospital Rehabilitation departments.
Package of hours 37.5 hours / week or by negotiation for part time working.
