The Chief of Staff (CoS) will be responsible for supporting the CTO in managing capacity, planning and reporting of R&D activities including both major initiatives and ongoing lifecycle development across Allocate’s portfolio of products.

The CoS will be responsible for supporting effective project governance, tracking and reporting aswell as working closely with the DSP and a wide of variety business stakeholders, to support the adoption of best practice processes and controls across R&D and related business functions.

Principal Job Elements & Responsibilities :

  • To support the CTO and other member of R&D to design, implement and manage a robust and high quality and customer focused development and release framework to support the business roadmap
  • To support coordination, processes and controls for major initiatives and releases across the product portfolio in partnership with the Release Director and other business functions (Product Management, Services, Support, Sales, Marketing, Finance etc)
  • To support effective and efficient capacity planning across R&D to deliver against product roadmaps and BAU delivery requirements
  • To provide accurate and timely reporting on all aspects of R&D, to ensure risks in the product development and release lifecycles are effective managed, and risks and issues appropriate identified and mitigated / controlled
  • To work with R&D Engineering, Quality and Release Directors and with other business functions to deliver consistently high-quality product releases that meet Customer needs and expectations

  • Establish and run effective portfolio governance for R&D coordinating development and release activities, drive decision making, identifying and removing obstacles to progress, resolving any conflicting stakeholder issues
  • Develop and implement comprehensive accurate and timely reporting to manage performance, enable timely intervention and ensure awareness across related business functions
  • Manage the product portfolio to deliver objectives and business outcomes; identifying and managing risks, issues, and dependencies;
  • devising mitigating actions where required; and effectively escalating where necessary

  • Make operational recommendations on and ensure effective financial management, and return on investment throughout product development lifecycles underpinning the roadmap and product investment cases
  • Aid in the effective governance of plans, budget and scope, ensuring clear responsibility and accountability for the delivery of projects to time, cost & quality requirements
  • Aid in the management of the inter-relationship of R&D with the wider business prioritising BAU demands

    Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience :

  • Demonstrable Portfolio, Programme or PMO experience and software / systems projects and change management
  • Demonstrable track record, and sufficient gravitas and experience, to deliver positive, high impact business outcomes and change.
  • Experience of establishing a Portfolio Management function in a Software context business is highly desirable
  • PMO / Project Management related qualifications highly desirable i.e. Agile, MSP, Prince2
  • Working in the technology sector highly desirable
  • Sound MS Office skills (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
