As System Engineer, you will be part of an experienced IT team responsible for the core infrastructure that our services rely on 24 / 7.

We are looking for a proactive and innovative System Engineer with experience of working with modern technologies like JAMF, Saltstack and VMware.

It would be great if you have worked before with macOS and Linux (Redhat / CentOS).

System Engineer

Location : Amsterdam Central Station

37.5 hours per week on full-time basis

A 4-day work week is possible

As a System Engineer, you will primarily be responsible for problem solving and system administration, dealing with ticket requests and supporting departmental IT projects and cross-

departmental projects. As a System Engineer, you will join a highly-motivated technical department and will be responsible for maintaining our company-

wide IT infrastructure and providing high-quality user support for our IT Services (network, NAS, email, managed laptops, virtual environment) together with your IT colleagues.

Upcoming and ongoing challenges for this year include two large projects : further implementation of Saltstack and Elasticsearch.

In this role, you will be accountable for :

  • Maintain our Linux servers running Redhat / CentOS using Saltstack
  • Maintain our metal servers and virtual environment servers running VMware
  • Work with our Netapp NAS
  • Install hardware and troubleshoot problems at our colocations in Amsterdam
  • After six months in the IT Department, you will be expected to participate in our 24 / 7 standby - shifts are one week every 6-8 weeks
  • You may need to travel 2-3 times per year to attend training courses and attend or support conferences like RIPE Meetings
  • What we expect from you :

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT or related studies.
  • At least three years’ experience working in a similar environment and position as a System Engineer on Linux.
  • Strong technical knowledge.
  • Strong written and spoken English
  • Competencies : team player, work well under pressure, complex problem-solving skills, innovative
  • It would be nice if you also have :

  • Experience using JAMF to manage macOS
  • Experience with Saltstack
  • Experience scripting and programming
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory
  • Affinity with the IT / Internet industry
  • Have experience with innovative self-management organisational structures (e.g. Holacracy)

    Information Technology and Security Department

    Our international team of 14 colleagues with eight nationalities is responsible for the RIPE NCC’s IT infrastructure and services.

    Working with other departments to support their needs is an integral part of the job. The IT Department implements new technologies for the entire company and is always looking to innovate.
