The role

The Sustainability Manager (SM) is an integral part of the Sustainability Team and will assist in the effective and efficient management of carbon related sustainability aspects of VolkerFitzpatrick projects both on site and where required in the office.

The overall purpose is to deliver the Carbon Strategy for VolkerFitzpatrick providing measurable improvement in both direct and indirect Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon emissions as defined by VolkerWessels (UK) Sustainability Strategy in line with current industry standards capturing energy and utility information to provide a robust carbon footprint report to Senior Management on a monthly basis.

The Manager will also be responsible for interrogating the data and providing advice for improvement.

Where required analyse ongoing specific construction projects from tender stage through to completion and beyond in terms of operational and embodied carbon of the scheme as a whole developing a robust series of tools and procedures.

Key accountabilities

  • Continue to develop a robust method for all VolkerFitzpatrick sites to measure, report and improve carbon emissions in line with any overarching VolkerWessels UK Limited strategy.
  • Collate site data monthly and advise on any potential improvement measures.
  • Follow the HSEQS principles of recording monthly statistics and develop tangible metrics for reporting of carbon emissions on a site-by-site basis.
  • Review the data recorded and advise sites / offices on any areas of potential improvement.
  • Integrate any VFL Fixed Office energy and utility use into the data collection. and carbon data from across VolkerFitzpatrick Construction Operations through smart metering.
  • Producing base lining, benchmarking and energy and carbon performance analysis and reporting against the VF Sustainability Strategy.
  • Undertake project embodied carbon measurement / calculation and carbon reporting.
  • Help with carbon accounting relative to off-setting.
  • Complete VFL annual ONS LCREE assessment and any similar duties
  • Where required on specific tenders assist / manage the companies pre construction activities and marketing in terms of Sustainability / Carbon.
  • Skills & experience

  • Will be personable with good oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven track record in carbon management / reporting with at least 3 years’ experience in the field.
  • Ideally have knowledge of the construction industry in general with interest in climate change, carbon management and sustainability.
  • Working knowledge of computer skills Microsoft Office and Outlook especially MS Excel and PowerBi
  • Pro-active / can do attitude.
  • Willing to travel to / from sites when work dictates.
  • Ideally experience of undertaking an LCCA using industry standard LCCA software tools such as OneClick LCA, E-tool.
  • Become a member at the appropriate level with CIBSE.
