What is the purpose of this job?
Working as part of the Data & Analytics team, you will bring your analytical skills and problem-solving abilities to drive forward and support the Rail Retail Strategy.
We work with our members to determine the strategy the rail industry will pursue across both product and fulfilment methods.
Your analysis will support the evaluation of existing strategies and help shape future strategies and decisions. As a result, you will help deliver real world positive change across the rail network impacting both new and existing customers.
The D&A team works across different projects and programmes to support the business and train operating companies (TOCs) to gain maximum value from data.
You’ll receive career coaching and line management support from the D&A team, with day-to-day direction being given by the Retail Strategy team.

What experience, skills and knowledge do I need?
The candidate should have advanced SQL knowledge (ideally in AWS Redshift) & data visualization skills (ideally in Tableau).
In addition, they should also have working knowledge with agile development tools such as Jira, Confluence and GitHub. They should have proven experience working and querying large, complex, and messy data sets with excellent organisation and proven ability to work on several simultaneous projects.
Being an excellent communicator is essential for the role. The way you deliver and communicate your findings will influence how your recommendations and findings are adopted by the industry.
We would expect the candidate to be confident and articulate and able to adapt communication styles to their audience.
Understanding of Data Engineering concepts (ETL processes / Automation) and hands on experience with AWS tools such as EC2 and S3 are desirable but not essential.
