Candidate : You will have several years of experience in an automation engineering environment delivering Automation & Control systems, ideally in combination with SCADA interfaces.
Knowledge and understanding of the principles of MV / HV power generation would be beneficial. You must have experience in developing and testing PLC logic, preferably on Schneider or B&R platforms and be familiar with integration of equipment using industrial communication protocols such as OPC, Modbus and Canbus.
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Structured Text, C# or Visual Basic is essential. Experience with other communication protocols such as IEC 61850 and MQTT would also be beneficial.
Your primary role will be to support the ongoing development of Aggreko’s next generation SCADA and automation platforms which will be used across the business.
You will be working closely with global operational teams and application development teams. Travel is to be expected to support testing, commissioning and training activities.
You should be familiar with working in an industrial environment where having a good awareness of safety is essential and where resourcefulness and a strong analytical mind set are desirable skills.
Key responsibilities : You will support all aspects of automation & control systems development, including, requirements gathering, design, development, integration, validation and you will support commissioning activities.
Agree specific approach, priorities and milestones with Technical Product Manager and Project Manager. Plan and drive each task / project to completion in line with specification and agreed timeframe.
Creation of technical documentation, design specifications and test procedures for Aggreko control systems. Contribute to writing relevant sections of O&M Manuals for End Users.
Design / develop control systems and data network architectures; design, develop & test PLC / HMI based control systems using IEC 61131-3 compliant tools.
Work with key suppliers to ensure that optimal use is made of available technologies / components. Selection of components considering technical specification and the total cost of ownership over the full product lifecycle.
Ensure that product development and design work, including the selection / specification of components, meets Aggreko engineering standards and best engineering practice.
Design and develop test procedures and local work instructions, in conjunction with the Development Test Engineers Provide technical support and expertise to production and operational personnel Indicative performance measures : Delivery of development and project work to agreed time, cost and quality expectations Promote and demonstrate right first time zero defects’ approach to task delivery Delivery of product improvements in line with business objectives Education / Qualifications : HNC / HND / Bachelor’s degree level qualification or equivalent in Automation engineering or closely related field, demonstrating a high Automation, Control & Instrumentation content.

What role is the successful candidate likely to be carrying out at present? A Control Systems design and / or development engineering role working for an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or End User manufacturing / automotive / energy / utilities company extensively involved in process control, design, development, integration, validation, installation and commissioning.
Or experience working for a consultancy engaged with all of the above.
