About the role
Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Site Engineer to join our Design & Engineeringteam based at the Solihull office, though will be deployed to offices / sites as they are ready across N1 / N2.
Role Purpose :
The HS2, N1 / N2 project covers the northern 90km section of Phase 1 of the overall HS2 scheme to provide a new high-speed rail connection between London and the North of England.
SB3 are a joint venture incorporating Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering (BBGE) and Bachy Soletanche Ltd (BSL), and are appointed by BBV, (Balfour Beatty / Vinci JV), to deliver the geotechnical works required along the approximately 90km of route from Leamington Spa to Litchfield.
The works comprises extensive geotechnical works including :
Circa. 9km of Diaphragm Walls at 9 individual structures;
28No. Secant / contiguous structures totalling 150,000 lin. m of piling;
Plunge Columns, Tension Piles, Ground Anchors, Soil Nails and Ground Improvement;
103No. Piled bridges & viaducts.
This is a key infrastructure project and with circa 100m of spend per annum the geotechnical works is a significant element of the works for the project.
What you'll be doing
As a Senior Site Engineer you will :
Manage internal resource and subcontractors;
Ensure that the works are constructed in accordance with the contract and design information, drawings, specification and Project Management Plan;
Produce and review construction methods statements ensuring that the works are constructed efficiently and safely;
Produce all site documentation for delivery of the works including PMP, PVPMP, ITP, Construction Phase Management Plan etc as required;
Develop then work to programmes, measuring progress and productivity outputs;
Understand and apply the procedures and processes detailed in the project Health, Safety and Environmental plans, and to promote a safe working culture;
Ensuring the works are undertaken safely and in accordance with Health, Safety & Environmental legislation and the site HS&E plans.
Prepare and review risk assessments;
Support and drive behavioural safety on site;
Be responsible for the monitoring, progress reporting and achieving of goals for the work under his / her responsibility;
Anticipate and resolve problems, in particular related to engineering issues;
Manage construction records, O&M manuals and as built drawings;
Support our Customer Focus, Construction Excellence and Innovation strategy;
Undertake client meeting and precontract meetings.
Who we're looking for
Personal Qualities and Experience :
The following qualities / experience are essential :
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people at all levels across the organisation and externally;
Strong computer skills - focused on Excel / Word / PowerPoint;
5 years experience in the construction industry;
Experience in delivery of civil engineering contracts on various scales;
Ability to manage multiple teams efficiently;
Ability to manage multiple scheme costs;
Ability to manage Health and Safety including Behavioural Safety;
Ability to lead, communicate and influence others to deliver targets;
SSSTS or SMSTS.
The following qualities / experience are desirable :
Experience working for a piling, ground engineering or civils subcontractor;
Civil Engineering Degree or equivalent preferable.
