Purpose of Role

To support the Business Intelligence needs of all areas of the organisation by designing, building and managing BI / DWH solutions and reports, ensuring that existing reports are kept current and delivered to the business in a timely and accurate manner.

The BI & Analytics Developer will be familiar with key business systems and processes, and will be responsible for the design, development and maintenance of the Tilney Smith & Williamson Enterprise Data Warehouse, and reporting systems.

The BI & Analytics function will provide a single source of truth’ for data within the organisation and all requests for reports, data extracts and other forms of BI will be channeled through the BI & Analytics team.

It will also handle data migration and integration activities. This will allow Tilney Smith & Williamson to provide consistent and reconcilable data and this developer role is key to delivering this capability.

Reports to Business Intelligence & Analytics Manager

Responsibilities :

  • Work with key personnel throughout the organisation to specify, maintain and uphold the definitions (both business and technical) of fundamental data objects (e.
  • g. Client, Prospect, Account, Fee etc.)

  • Develop Business Intelligence / DWH and reporting solutions, including ad hoc data analysis, by interpreting business requirements from stakeholders and Business Analysts, and advising on appropriate technical solutions
  • Ensure that reports and analysis are architected using a formally structured approach and are built based upon a defined suite of fundamental data objects
  • Ensure that reports and supporting data objects are properly specified and are designed for reuse
  • Ensure reconciliation of data between different report types and that data definitions are clear to the users of the reports
  • Manage data definitions to ensure consistency and eliminate interpretation ambiguity
  • Ensure that data update Jobs’ necessary to support data are run to an agreed timetable and handle any failures
  • Follow appropriate development and testing principles and related in-house processes
  • Maintain effective relationships with stakeholders and ensure communication is effective and timely
  • Provide time estimates for work so stakeholder expectations and resources can be managed
  • Keep abreast of technical BI changes and emerging technologies to ensure adherence to best practice
  • Experience and Skills :

    Technical

  • Skilled in Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
  • Skilled in Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) ETL / ELT development
  • Skilled in building PowerBI data visualisation solutions, or an aptitude to learn new tools that are provisioned
  • Understanding of the principles of ETL technical design & data warehouse design
  • Understanding and experience of Kimball dimensional modelling techniques
  • Extensive use of and fully conversant in Transact SQL and working in Microsoft SQL Server, building SQL scripts and using tools like SQL profiler, SQL Server Agent etc.
  • Understanding of the Microsoft Business Intelligence product suite; including SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) and SharePoint integration
  • Skilled at manipulating data in Excel and some basic Microsoft Office automation experience
  • Familiar with following an agile development methodology
  • Familiar with working with and extracting and formulating data from business systems
  • Business Analysis skills to derive requirements from business stakeholders
  • Experience in, and understanding of the project lifecycle using Agile Scrum, and experience of JIRA task management system.
  • To provide technical leadership in areas of expertise
  • Non-technical

  • Be flexible and adaptable to meet business deliverables
  • Willingness to travel to different office locations as required by the role
  • Understanding of the principles of IT security and data protection
