The Freshfields Global Europe Centre provides both business and legal services to the firm. Our services are delivered in a way which supports the global nature of our firm and our clients, enables our fee earners to deliver exceptional service to our clients and to do that in a way which is efficient and effective.
Our Europe Centre is the first site to be established in the emerging Freshfields Global operating model. Our aspiration is to establish further sites in the US and Asia-Pacific in the coming years.
The Finance Systems Support team is responsible for supporting teams using the core finance systems throughout the Firm, from billing and reporting through to development of the ebilling system.
Role summary / purpose of job
Working within the systems area of the finance support department. You will be part of a team supporting all of the firm’s global finance systems including the firm’s practice management system (PMS) in addition to other ancillary systems.
The main purpose of the role is to provide functional assistance to all of the global finance support community ensuring that the finance systems continue to meet global management and local statutory compliance requirements whilst offering advice, support and solutions to queries.
Key responsibilities and deliverables
Provide support through their expertise and knowledge to the global finance community for all the finance systems that the team supports include 3e, Chrome River, SAP BPC, Lawyer Experience etc.
Act as an SME for the users, answering queries and investigating their issues on the systems; providing a professional and timely response.
Act as an intermediary between the global finance support function and external vendors to ensure resolution of issues in a timely manner, minimising business impact
Manage global month end processes, closing periods and running foreign exchange revaluation processes
Liaise with local office accounting experts to ensure that 3E meeting local requirements for statutory and tax reporting
Ensure system integrity is maintained by performing sub ledger to general ledger reconciliations on a periodic basis
Ensure adherence to global policy and processes are maintained
Work with the Business Analyst and other team members to deliver change to the organisation either through changing processes or systems.
Respond to requests for new system master data by liaising with central data governance to ensure that a consistent global chart of account is maintained
Proactively develop the system processes to respond to the changing needs of the business and provide and evolve best practice solutions in a fluid environment
Ensure that systems upstream and downstream feeds are operating correctly, assisting in triaging and resolving integration issues
Aid in the implementation of new upgrades, functionality and system wide changes
Work closely with the development teams and third party providers, feeding back issues and defects discovered through testing and coordinating their resolution
Assisting in tail cutting activities (client / supplier)
Assisting in triaging and resolution of both inbound and outbound integrations
Contributing to, and participating in, the build and release management process with development teams
Aiding in the design, testing and rollout of new reports, systems and interfaces
Involvement in other related projects that the wider team are undertaking
Key requirements (Communication / skills / experience)
Qualified accountant (ACA or equivalent) with experience in a systems accountant role
Experience of financial systems within a professional services environment, ideally from a legal background.
Understanding end to end finance processes

Previous experience of management information systems
Ability to investigate and explain the causality of figures reported
Extremely Computer literate
Advanced level Excel (pivot tables, vlookups, complex formulae)
Experience of 3e or Elite Enterprise Practice Management Systems
