will provide an opportunity for the individual to work across a wide range of clients and individuals advising on many different aspects of VAT advisory, dispute resolution, transaction and liability matters.
The core client base serviced from Edinburgh includes landed estates, large listed and privately-owned housebuilders and developers, SME corporates with a focus on corporate finance transactions, with some charity / NFP work.
It is a rewarding client base that presents a technical challenge.
The successful candidate will be able to manage day to day advice, providing client service face to face, through virtual meetings and in written correspondence.
The client base, and service provided, requires advice to be provided at short notice whilst retaining exceptional technical standards with a commercial focus on the outcomes that clients are trying to achieve.
Strong communication and commercial awareness regarding clients attitude to risk are therefore essential for the role.
With these in mind, the successful candidate will possess the following :
The ideal candidate must have strong technical skills and experience and have a detailed up to date knowledge of VAT issues.
Particular experience of land and property, partial exemption and business / non-business apportionments would be desirable.
Experience with HMRC’s BRR+ and SAO approach is also relevant to this role. They will also be pro-active in their approach to problem solving and technical research.
Strong report writing skills and the ability to express ideas and simplify complex issues are essential, together with the ability to review large datasets, utilizing resources in the accounting / outsourcing team to provide VAT advice with clear data analysis for larger clients and on corporate finance transactions.
Candidates should be self-motivated, display a positive approach to work and have the ability to get things done. In addition, they should possess the confidence and professionalism to establish credibility at all levels, be commercially minded and have a clear perception of client requirements and to ensure that service delivery is of the highest standard.
As there is a potential for client work at any of our offices, a driving licence and access to a car to be used for business purposes would be advantageous, together with the flexibility to travel to visit clients across the UK.
Saffery Champness has 9 offices across the UK with the individual most likely being required to occasionally travel to London, Inverness, Manchester or Harrogate.
Whilst the role is demanding there is a strong focus at Saffery Champness on work / life balance and the role could accommodate an individual who is looking for 4 days per week, rather than a full-time position.
