Our well established Ireland Utilities team delivers projects in Energy, Water, Wastewater and Flood Management for clients across Ireland and the UK.

We are growing to meet our clients’ needs and are actively recruiting at various levels.

We currently have opportunities for a Principal and Senior Principal Civil Engineer with utility engineering experience to join our Utilities team, based in our Belfast Office.

Working on projects throughout Ireland and the UK, your responsibilities may include :

  • Leading the delivery of a wide range of engineering deliverables and projects at various stages in the project life cycles, while ensuring technical excellence and best practice to specification.
  • Reviewing design deliverables / outputs.
  • Setting & maintaining standards for technical quality ensuring designs meet Client specification. Leading multi-disciplinary project teams to deliver projects within agreed scope, timeframes and budgets.
  • Managing other design team members in an integrated approach.
  • Working to drive Health and Safety and overall project quality objectives.
  • Driving project financial performance within civil discipline budget on projects.
  • Communicating and liaising effectively with colleagues, contracting engineers, subcontractors, sub-consultants and clients.
  • Developing and maintaining excellent relationships with the other Jacobs discipline leads on projects.
  • Supervising and visiting contractors on site and advising on engineering issues.
  • Leading tendering procedures and putting together proposals.
  • Providing technical guidance and support and mentoring to less experienced engineers or technicians.
  • Essential :

  • Minimum of an accredited Honours Civil Engineering Degree (NFQ Level 8).
  • Proven ability in the utilities engineering industry.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of budget management, financial performance and familiar with current industry best practice.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of leading, or be able to demonstrate potential to do so, a successful team of engineers.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team, liaising directly with client and other project team members.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written work.
  • Desirable

  • Chartered engineer / project manager.
  • Proven ability in the design of water or wastewater schemes; clean water and sewage transfer systems and pumping systems.
  • Detailed knowledge of contract types and procurement options.
  • Proven ability with construction management and / or the site supervision of a contractor during construction.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of budget management, financial performance and familiar with current industry best practice.
  • Proven ability of leading, or be able to demonstrate potential to do so, a successful team of engineers.
