Workshop Technician

Tracking Code 5225 Job Description

This is a two month temp position.

Business Contribution :

To assemble and despatch products in line with detailed drawing specifications and procedures and processes. To provide general workshop support, preparation of parts for assembly and orders for despatch in line with procedures and processes.

Description of General Duties :

  • Assembly of production tools
  • Pick components from store locations and assemble
  • Build tool cases and complete tool kits
  • Packaging of complete orders ready for dispatch
  • Use of hand tools
  • Following engineering drawings and assembly procedures
  • Undertake function, load and batch testing
  • Goods inward
  • Loading and unloading of goods
  • Removing packaging and preparing goods inward for quality inspection
  • Checking materials and goods against purchase order to establish that correct quantities, types etc. have been delivered
  • Raise Non-conformance reports as required
  • Manufacturing (as required)
  • Welding and fabrication
  • Turning and milling
  • General workshop
  • Safe use of workshop equipment (hand tools, power tools, grinding etc.)
  • Safe use and operation of forklift vehicle to unload and load deliveries
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors & the general public
  • Adhere to stated policies and procedures relating to health & safety, quality and environmental management.
  • Pursue personal development of skills and knowledge necessary for the effective performance of the role

  • Understanding of the importance of waste segregation
  • Ensure spillage is kept to the minimum and recorded if occurs
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environmental at all times
  • Continue to increase knowledge of all company products and workshop activities through job rotation
  • Steadily increase productivity levels to meet company targets, whilst maintaining quality standards
  • Have a flexible approach to work, with the ability to multi-task
  • Any other duties as deemed necessary by line manager
  • Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental Responsibilities

  • Take part in induction training and become familiar with QHSE responsibilities
  • Take part in QHSE Briefings and HSE walk arounds
  • Work to company QHSE procedures, processes, policies and work instructions
  • Identify opportunities for improvement of QHSE processes & the QHSE management system and assist with the development of new and existing QHSE procedures, policies and work instructions
  • Maintain full and accurate records as job requires
  • Ensure that correct revisions of QHSE management system paperwork (procedures, forms etc.) are used at all times
  • Take part in internal, external and 3rd party audits / assessments when requested
  • Act in accordance with any audit findings
  • Assist with the closure of non-conformities and corrective actions as required
  • Avoid unsafe acts and work safely at all times
  • Become familiar with QHSE information and instructions issued by the company
  • Comply with company QHSE training including toolbox talks
  • Report all accidents and incidents no matter how trivial
  • Report near misses or unsafe acts using HSE Observation or Near Miss forms
  • Ensure, where required, that suitable and sufficient documented risk assessments are available for the work being carried out, if not then assist with the assessing of work related hazards and risks
  • Assisting in COSHH risk assessments where required
  • Ensuring that the correct Personal Protective Equipment is worn where required
  • Ensuring that safety devices and manufacturers’ instructions are followed when using equipment
  • Co-operate with others on health & safety and do not interfere with, or misuse, anything provided for health, safety or welfare
  • Correctly use and maintain work items provided, including personal protective equipment, in accordance with training or instructions
  • Follow the company’s Waste Management Hierarchy of prevent, reduce, reuse, recycle, recover, disposal
  • Ensure waste is segregated into appropriate containers to be disposed of correctly
  • Ensure spillage is kept to the minimum and recorded if it should occur
  • Any other reasonable QHSE responsibilities and duties as deemed necessary by company
  • Required Skills

  • Workshop background preferred
  • Experience in manufacturing / engineering / fabrication preferred however an interest in these areas may suffice
  • Welding, fabricating, turning and milling experience preferred
  • Trained and experienced in the use and operation of forklift vehicles to 2.5tonnes preferred
  • Minimum of secondary education
  • Further education or vocational qualifications in relevant subject(s) preferred but not mandatory if experience / track record suffice.
