The Data Engineer will support the Group Data Team, working closely with our internal IT team, to provide support for the more technical aspects of Group Data Management and Reporting.
This would include the extraction of datasets from multiple data sources, provide data mappings, support the data feeds and rule-sets required for reports and dashboards along with being an integral part of specifying and delivering data project work
Support the delivery of the technical data provision aspects for Reporting purposes, Dashboards, Data Migrations and Data Analytics.
The toolsets used vary from Excel and VBA, through to ETL toolsets and data extraction toolsets (experience of SAP datasets).
Support continuous technology improvements including the development of the SAP HANA Business Warehouse and Microsoft Azure Data Lake
Provide insightful and accurate business data to our key internal customers to influence key decision making. The need to influence and communicate with Senior Business and IT Colleagues is an important part of the role.
Work alongside a wider IT Architecture function to ensure we produce artefacts that help us understand, secure and use our data better in the future.
Ensure efficient delivery of defined data engineering deliverables, raising Change Requests as appropriate and actively seeking and identifying opportunities to improve efficiencies.
Ensure the constant assessment of information to both prevent errors and ensure data integrity and the highest levels of accuracy possible.
Assist with performing data quality control and assurance activities, working with Data Analysts and Divisional Data Managers to handle, monitor and resolve data quality issues
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Minimum of 3 years of Data Engineering type roles with knowledge of various technical solutions, including Excel VBA, SQL, ETL Toolsets and SAP Data Extraction (BODs)
Experience of cloud based Data Lake technologies ideally Microsoft Azure and linked toolsets such as Data Bricks and Azure DB.
Exposure to the Data industry and an understanding of data systems
Strong management, influencing and communication skills with ability to prioritise
A strong understanding of data models, structures and techniques
Experience in organising and streamlining data processes, Data migration and data cleanse processes
Exposure to and experience of negotiation and problem solving
Good analytical problem solving and fact finding skills
Ability to operate at strategic and tactical levels of project implementation
