FIRE DESIGN ENGINEER LOCATION Slough REPORTING LINE Fire Solutions Manager SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE

  • Be proficient in the use of the prescribed software or Cloud based tools for digital design review and mark-up of documents and models
  • Have experience in project risk management
  • Excellent understanding of Fire Systems, Design and regulations.
  • PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • FIA Qualifications units 1, 2 & 3 are essential
  • FIA AO Fire Foundation, FIA Environment & FIA Health & Safety modules are desirable
  • The ideal candidate will currently be working for a BAFE SP203-1 accredited company
  • Knowledge of integrated fire systems
  • Experience of seeing projects from start to finish
  • Experience in having installed systems would be an advantage
  • Full UK driving license
  • PURPOSE OF POSITION

    The design team are a national resource to support any sales function in the design of fire and security solution. The designer works to various key performance indicators which include volume of designs completed in a period, value of those designs, the margin drift from sold margin to installed margin and the accuracy of utilising standard parts.

    MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • To work with the SME sales teams and product managers in designing fire systems and solutions that are technically sound, meet industry requirements and generate profit for the business
  • Have the ability to carry out site surveys unsupervised
  • To support the bid team with any design work for bids and tenders as required
  • To keep up to date on regulation changes and implement these changes as required to ensure business compliance
  • To communicate and manage relationships with multiple stakeholders (internal and external) on designs to ensure they are relevant and in line with the scope of work
  • The ability to work under pressure and to adapt to changing timescales
  • To be able to work from template documents for designs but that these are still customised to the requirement of the site / project
  • To be proficient in the use of MS Word, Excel, Visio and Outlook
  • Responsible for updating the Task Information Delivery Plan (TIDP)
  • Ensure delivery of models and information against the TIDP and the BEP
  • Update registers, track training requirements and competencies
  • Carry out resource scheduling and progress monitoring
  • Advise of progress and timescales, and escalate issues when necessary
  • Conduct and coordinate design creation and coordination duties and issues (e.g. review and mark-up)
  • Attend design team meetings
  • Record, mitigate and / or escalate risk
  • Ensure project and organisational standards and guidelines are honoured
  • Conduct detailed model reviews to ensure project expectations are met

  • Clearly describe and present the solution when required to provide both a clear & unambiguous guide to the installers and the client.
  • Complete designs that generate no loss on margin to installation
  • Support and assist the sales account managers to increase sales
