About Us :

THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF GIRO’S PERSUASIVE POWERS

The Adult Services team in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories. We love it when our work touches lives.

Take Stepping to the Beat, our 3k walk, jog or run for people with learning or physical disabilities or Autism, their families and carers.

It’s a life-affirming, music-based event Coreen and Claudia are massively proud of and they were keen for people to spread the word.

So, imagine how thrilled they were when one of our residents, Giro, did just that. Advocating for people with disabilities at a planning meeting for transport in London, he was proudly wearing his event medal.

And he decided to use it to encourage others. As he passed it around the room, Giro inspired lots more people with disabilities to get involved.

Infectious enthusiasm goes a long way here.

The Role :

As a Team Leader in our Supported Employment Service (WE*), you can make your own powerful contribution to creating inclusive opportunities.

Through a person-centred approach that promotes individuality and diversity, you will enable residents with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and sensory impairment to access meaningful paid work, so increasing their independence and autonomy.

This will include everything from providing support with CVs and application forms to working with employers to formulate individualised training programmes.

You will also share knowledge and expertise with less experienced colleagues and guide others to ensure we provide the best possible service.

You’ll be joining an expanding, passionate and supportive team, which is always looking for new and innovative ways to support our customers into paid employment.

One of the key challenges is educating organisations to challenge stereotypes, increase awareness of diversity and inclusion, and reduce barriers to employment.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You :

You’re likely to have experience of working in a supported employment service, for example as an employment adviser or job coach, including working with people with disabilities.

You’ll have proven skills in employer engagement and job brokerage, and will know how to support people with complex barriers to achieve their goals.

Some experience of supervising the work of others is important. A confident communicator, able to build rapport with all kinds of people, you’ll be skilled at influencing and persuading others.

Ideally, you’ll have an NVQ / Diploma Level 2 or 3 or an equivalent in Advice and Guidance or Supported Employment. Knowledge of the issues faced by people with disabilities wanting to work is essential, as familiarity with the needs of employers, and awareness of legislation and best practice governing learning and disability services.

What We Offer :

Westminster is an amazing place. There are 250,000 diverse residents, over 50,000 vibrant and vital businesses and three-quarters-of-a-million people working here every day.

We’re an organisation that wants the very best for our residents : a supportive and safe environment, the chance to grow and learn throughout their lives, to build fantastic careers in world-leading industries, to have access to high-quality, affordable housing and to retire into the community with dignity and pride.

We want Westminster to be a place where you can make the most of your talents and thrive as an individual. That’s why we’re proud to have won Best Health & Wellbeing Initiative in the 2020 / 21 Business Culture Awards.

By being the best you can be, you’ll help us adapt to the changing needs of our organisation and communities.

At Westminster City Council, we are passionate about our aim to be an inclusive workplace for all that reflects the communities we serve, and we believe everyone is valued.

We particularly welcome applicants from underrepresented backgrounds, including B.A.ME, Black, Asian and Multiple Ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+ and those with hidden or visible disabilities.

We’re committed to ensuring all our staff regardless of gender, age, religion, sexuality, ethnicity or disability can succeed.

We value diversity and appreciate that people work in different ways. So, as a Timewise employer we work to provide flexible working arrangements and an empowering environment that enables you to be your best, that is the Westminster Way.
