Role purpose

Responsible for producing tender pricing submissions and cost plans for public sector framework and private client schemes and undertaking due diligence checks on all information received.

Work in conjunction with available cost data and other estimators to accurately provide assessments for scheme viability to ensure that contracts are secured at margins that are acceptable to ISG

To ensure compliance with the ISG CMS and that the pre-construction commercial functions are operated in conjunction with internal governance being adhered to.

Ensure that cost report documentation is undertaken in a timely manner and that deadlines are met for all commercial requirements throughout the pre-construction process.

It is expected that the Senior Estimator will be involved with projects ranging in value of between £1m - £50m+. Projects may be based in the Public Sector and experience of managing costs and schemes through two-stage procurement and pre-construction phases is required.

The Senior Estimator will be expected to demonstrate collaborative and partnering behaviours aligned to the Public Sector, through which we procure and operate to provide exemplary customer service.

Early identification and notification of risks is necessary to enable the business to plan effectively.

Feed into and assist in building up the cost data bank of information that is used by the wider ISG business.

Key accountabilities

  • To liaise with prospective client's both pre and post tender and provide a collaborative experience that promotes the Company
  • Attend tender launches / settlements for new projects and present figures where required
  • To ensure the Operations Team receive a full handover of all relevant items on award of contract and to support the Operations Team thereafter
  • Support where required to prepare and submit suitably qualified and worded tender document
  • Advise on product selection, specifications and assist with the value engineering
  • Build rapports with client commercial counterparts throughout 2nd stage negotiations
  • Manage and control the design throughout the 2nd stage of two-stage tendering, ensuring that the cost plan / budget is maintained and controlled
  • Ensure the ISG supply chain managers are informed of proposed suppliers and provided with the opportunity to liaise and influence costings on schemes based on ISG supplier agreements.
  • Ensure that off-site, modern methods of construction options are investigated and pursued wherever possible for all projects as early in the process as possible to maximise any available benefits
  • Arrange external Bills of Quantities measure or if workload / time allows produce own BoQs
  • Organise and select enquiries for sub-contract & material quotations
  • Analyse quotations, check for compliance, compare and negotiate savings
  • Learn and understand the rule of the frameworks that they work on to ensure that ISG are fully compliant with the requirements of all our frameworks
  • Share best practice with other team members in the business.
  • Feed into group benchmarking data following project completions to ensure that accurate up to date cost information is available to the entire construction division for all our sectors

  • Experience of public sector frameworks
