You will manage the content and editorial production for the Ports and Harbors Magazine, the official journal of the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH).
The magazine provides actionable insight into port-related developments from security to software and serves the world maritime community at large.
Port authorities, government agencies, shipping / stevedoring companies, port construction firms, consultants, universities and research institutes rely on its editorial coverage published every 2 months.
You will also work on a variety of other custom and contract publications within the maritime market sector, including magazines, supplements, and directories, from draft copy to finished publication.
You will work with clients, such as industry professional associations, and internal teams to deliver products with the highest level of editorial and design quality.
You will draw content from multiple resources, including clients and freelancers, and will organize the efforts of clients, internal stakeholders, and freelancers to deliver projects in accordance with specifications, on time and within budget.
What will you be doing?
Liaises with both internal and external customers to understand project objectives and specifications
Writes original articles and coordinates additional content with clients, internal editorial resources, and freelancers
Edits content per client and internal specifications and style guides
Collaborates with sales and ad copy control to ensure advertising is correctly positioned
Prepares content for production, ensuring compliance with strict print deadlines
Checks and approves all stages of proofs, revisions, and final files for editorial accuracy and correctness to ensure quality standards are maintained
Reconciles all editorial and production changes / corrections
Acts as a client point of contact within the maritime media business of IHS Markit
Maintains collaborative, proactive, and effective communication with both client and internal teams
Participates in project-related meetings and teleconferences
Collaborates with production supervisors to create and monitor schedules and make revisions as circumstances require
Ensures that editorial and production requirements are understood by key stakeholders and are carried out on schedule
Works closely with in-house staff to ensure the project remains on schedule and on budget
Recommends changes to the project to solve specific problems, as circumstances dictate
Works closely with production for assigned titles to ensure quality is maintained
Approves final files for printing
Provides newsletter assistance and colleague holiday / sick cover
Travel to attend trade shows, press shows, conferences and client meetings as necessary
A minimum of seven years of publishing and / or project management experience preferable in the Maritime sector
Relevant experience with digital and hardcopy publishing
Solid investigative mind-set with the ability to proactively search alternative sources of data
Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
Demonstrates strong aptitude for detail, accuracy and complex problem-solving
Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
Ability to work and take the lead within a team with good proven coaching skills
Ability to prioritize, think critically, and problem solve
Strong aptitude for detail and accuracy
Ready familiarity with magazine design and page layout, and production processes
Fluent in editorial laws (libel, content, copyright, Terrorism act) and editorial and publishing guidelines
Ability to adapt to changing technologies
Ability to thrive as a member of a collaborative team
Ability to travel c. 5 times a year and more if needed
