We’re on the lookout for an Assistant Category Manager to join our team based from our Abingdon office.

RM Education is the largest division in the RM Group with expected revenues of c£60m-£80m following an extensive restructuring.

The Group’s principal activity is the provision of products and services to the UK education market with some presence in international markets.

Today, RM is a UK leader in educational products and services with an extensive product portfolio.

What’s the purpose of this role?

The Assistant Category Manager supports the commercial delivery of the Connectivity P&L by :

  • Helping to achieve cost saving, revenue and profit targets, contributing to the RM Education P&L
  • Producing or mining, analysing and effectively using data to both improve reporting functionality and provide insights which inform future decisions
  • Assisting with all aspects of the product lifecycle, from concept all the way through to product end of life
  • Developing, improving and encouraging adherence to, both new and existing processes
  • Building and maintaining excellent relationships with key RM Education stakeholders both internally and externally
  • Developing a deep understanding of both the connectivity and education market places
  • Supporting the Category Manager with management of a complex product set and supplier base
  • What does the job entail?

    Proposition & Product Management

    Assist with the implementation of the category strategy, as defined by the Category Manager and Head of Connectivity

    Responsible for managing and maintaining all Connectivity parts

    Build close working relationships with key sales and customer facing personnel, prioritising heavy email traffic and responding promptly to queries

    Work with operational counterparts to contribute to a satisfactory customer journey, ensuring smooth delivery and support

    Active efforts and ideas to help generate revenue, driving products from concept through to end of life

    Focus on potential process improvements with a view to enhance operational efficiency and contribute to increased profitability

    Benchmark products and bids as required to identify opportunities for cost savings

    Identify opportunities for the supply partners to support the business strategy, through utilising third party expertise and to improve the TaT for quotation

    Organise and manage the ongoing Supplier Relationship Management programme (SRM)

    Financial Management & Market Insight

    Assist the Category Manager where required with the pricing strategy

    Mining, producing and analysing data to ensure a commercial approach is taken to shaping the product set

    Significant input into the reshaping of the Management Reporting functionality focused on using existing data to report effectively on P&L

    Benchmark products and bids as required to identify opportunities for cost savings or price realignment

    As the right candidate for the role of Assistant Category Manager, you will have some of the following :

  • Educated to degree or equivalent level and MCIPS qualified
  • Good communicating and influencing skills
  • Strong report writing skills
  • Planning & organising skills
  • Good judgement and decision making
  • High stress tolerance
  • Results orientation and achievement against objectives, targets and KPIs
  • Flexible can-do attitude with a willingness and ability to adapt within the role
