Here at Associated British Ports (ABP) we are recruiting for a Marine Operator to join our team in the Marine team in Lowestoft, East Anglia.
The marine department in East Anglia has recently expanded to create new opportunities and career progression routes as we prepare for future growth in the offshore wind farm industry and other large infrastructure projects.
It’s an exciting time to enter the port maritime profession and we look forward to welcoming a new team member with a positive attitude, willingness to learn new skills and take on the challenge and variety of work within the port.
Based in Lowestoft you will be an essential member of the marine team working in port control, operating the bascule bridge and providing relief cover as deck hand on the pilot cutter.
As a port control operator, you will act on behalf of the Divisional Harbour Master to ensure the safe operation of the port.
This involves activities such as handling port VHF radio and telephone communications, and maintaining records and documents related to port and vessel activities.
As part of your duties you will report any unsafe situations and damages and, if necessary activate the port emergency response plans.
You will also be fully trained to operate the bascule bridge, considering the safety of vessel, vehicles and pedestrians.
