The opportunity to transform journeys across the south east and beyond. We are seeking a GI Lead to help us deliver this prestigious project.

The Ground Investigations Lead is a member of the Ground Engineering Team Leadership and is responsible for leading the Ground Engineering Ground Investigation team and work together with the GI Implementation Leader (part of the Construction Workstream Organisation) for the successful delivery of the GI investigations.

Role Responsibilities : The Ground Investigation Leader is responsible for Technical Leadership of the Ground Investigation (excluding its delivery).

In particular : -identification, development and coordination of the ground investigation scope to address the requirements of the geotechnical and other LTC’s teams (e.

g. tunnelling / portals, highways, environmental, groundwater, contamination, sustainability, TPIs, archaeology, landscaping, architectural, etc).

  • preparation of the ground investigation technical specifications including, but not limited to : oon land, near-shore and over-
  • water investigations, traditional invasive investigations (ie. boreholes, trial pits, SPT, CPT, window sampling, seismic coring, etc);
  • ogeophysics (ie. seismic, geoelectric, GPR, cross-hole and in-hole geophysics, over water mapping and profiling, etc);olaboratory testing (ie.

  • standard geotechnical, soil and groundwater contamination, aggressiveness of soil / groundwater to buried concrete, advanced testing for FEM parameters, specific testing for TBM, conveyors, etc);
  • omonitoring (ie. environmental monitoring of groundwater and ground-gasses, settlement, baselining, remote digital and analogic monitoring, etc);
  • oinclusion of AGS and GIS requirements;oaccess to site, third parties, environmental aspects, etc-Provide support to the Construction Workstream Organisation in relation to : othe preparation of ground investigation contract, budget and programme;
  • omanagement and quantification of changes of scope;oprovision of (office) technical support to the GI Commercial Manager in relation to changes;
  • oAttendance of meeting with the GI contractor(s) to provide technical support to the Construction Team;oSupport in the selection of suitable ground investigation supervision resources.

    Assurance and Quality -Promoting innovation, best practice and lessons learned from other major UK / international projects.

  • Ensure that the highest quality ground investigation is specified and delivered.-Responsible for providing internal LTC assurance that the quality and technical objectives of the investigation are met and compliant with the scope of work captured in the Ground Investigation specifications;
  • Organise and managing internal checks, expert reviews and audits of compliance and quality of deliverables and performance;
  • Promoting and being responsible for HSW and CDM aspects of the GI (excluding the physical delivery of the GI).-Comply with the internal standards, QA processes, policies and all regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that activities are specified in compliance with the consent granted by statutory or non-statutory stakeholders or other bodies.
  • Communication and Reporting -Represent CASCADE in all interfaces with internal or external stakeholders, landowners, Statutory and non-

    Statutory bodies, etc.-Regular liaison with the design team to determine aims of the ground investigation and plan forthcoming activities.

  • Prepare regular updates for the design team and project with respect to the site operations and progress of the ground investigation.
  • Qualifications

    Skills, knowledge, previousexperience :

  • CivilEngineering or Engineering Geology qualification is essential.
  • Clearunderstanding of geology, geotechnics, civil engineering for transportinfrastructures, environmental, contamination, monitoring, sustainability, GIS,forms of contracts, contract management is essential.
  • Provenexperience of working for the clientduring scheme development phase is essential.
  • Previouscontinued experience on similar Highways and Tunnelling infrastructure schemesis essential.
  • Provenexperience of working in multi-discipline schemes is essential.
  • Provenexperience in specifying and managing large scaleground investigations is essential;
  • Provenexperience in managing a team is essential.
  • NEC3Contract administration experience is essential.
  • Proficiencyin administering commercial aspect relating to the management of the groundinvestigation essential.
  • Abilityto develop good relationships within a multidisciplinary environment and ableto communicate effectively.
  • Abilityto the interface with Client as well as contractors.
  • Goodunderstanding of the London Basin geology as well as previous work experiencein the area required.
  • Goodpresentation skills.
