Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council are lookingfor a Refuse Collector with driving responsibilities to be part of our teamproviding waste and recycling services across the Borough.

Blackburn withDarwen has one of the lowest recycling rates in the Country and we have committedto increase this from 30% to 50% within the next 5 years.

As a Refuse Collector you will be an advocate ofthe Council with a strong ethos to promote and encourage residents to recyclemore and correctly, in order to achieve this target together.

It is an essential requirement of this role thatyou have a Class 2 HGV driving licence and a valid CPC Driver Qualificationcard.

You will be responsible for collecting all types ofenvironmental waste including household waste, recycling, and garden waste fromdomestic and commercial properties, ensuring our borough is a clean and safeenvironment for all to enjoy.

Your main duties will include : following thecollection vehicle, ensuring the safe collection, emptying and return ofwheelie bins to their collection point.

Assisting the driver with the safemanoeuvring of the vehicle, particularly with reversing the vehicle. Assistingother teams where necessary.

When requiredas a driver your main duties willinclude : driving the collection vehicle, ensuring the safety of your teamwhilst they collect, empty and return wheelie bins to their collection point.

Reporting all issues to management via the in-cab devices, assisting otherRefuse Collectors when not driving and assisting other teams where necessary.

To succeed as Recycling Loader / Driver you will becustomer focused, building good working relationships with colleagues andcustomers.

You will have a strong understanding of health and safety practicesand be a responsible, leader of the team.

The candidate should have the ability tocommunicate with members of the public in a polite, professional, and friendlymanner, and be able to adapt when required.

The hours are 37 hours per week, Monday toSaturday. Your standard working pattern will be 4 x 9.25 hour days betweenMonday to Saturday.

You may be required to work additional hours, dependentupon the needs of the service; working weekends and alternate shifts.

Full PPE clothing and equipment will be provided tocomplete issued tasks.

All relevant training will be provided inaccordance to health and safety regulations, and a safe system of work for eachissued task.

  • An individual’s NHSappointment card cannot be used as proof of vaccination status.
