What will you be doing?

ISG's Fit Out business, which incorporates the Major Projects, Agility (Aldgate House), requires a Sustainability Manager to support a growth in private and public sector workload.

The role will therefore be split between Bristol and London, with a regular presence on site. The successful candidate will report to the Senior Sustainability Manager based in Bristol but also receive extensive support from the wider ISG sustainability team.

The role will require the following :

  • A focus on audits, inspections and environmental management requirements for projects
  • Manage and monitor project sustainability performance with a particular focus on :
  • Environmental compliance

    Sustainable procurement

    Job Purpose :

    To be the focal point for environmental and sustainability audits and inspections across Retail and Fit Out projects, working with existing sustainability teams in both business units.

    The successful candidate must be able to cope with a challenging workload including the ability to respond to deadlines and support several project teams simultaneously so that environmental requirements and sustainability commitments are met.

    Key Deliverables :

  • Complete regular project audits and inspections against EMS requirements
  • Undertake frequent visits to construction sites to help develop Project Sustainability Plans, associated management system requirements and to advise on environmental compliance areas
  • Collate and compile performance data from both internal and external inspections and audits, monitor action close out and trends relating to environmental risks
  • Carry out review and comment on trade contractors' environmental submissions, making recommendations where required
  • Support the management and delivery of external ISO 14001 audits
  • Support the development of ISG management systems to include industry best practice and innovation
  • Support the supply chain by upskilling them in environmental best practice
  • Keep up to date with the sustainability agenda, new legislation and best practise guidelines
  • Assist in the collation, analysis and reporting of data to enable the assessment of performance against sustainability targets
  • Monitor and review data to ensure accuracy and performance improvement
  • Adopt a proactive approach to improving performance and promoting sustainability and environmental management to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Participate in the wider ISG sustainability agenda through attending meetings, workshops and contributing to strategy development
  • Capture ISG best practice and produce case studies to share information and improve performance
  • What do you need to bring?

    The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator with a passion for, and in-depth understanding of sustainability and the environmental regulatory framework.

    A methodical approach to workload is necessary, as is the ability to prioritise urgent over important. Logistical planning for site attendances with competing work priorities is essential and will require a dynamic, flexible individual to manage workloads.

    The role involves working in both a standalone capacity as well as being part of a team. The individual must have experience relating to the construction industry and specifically working with construction teams.

  • Previous project management experience from a main contractor
  • An in-depth knowledge of the construction process on similar types of projects you'll have a recognised construction qualification and relevant health & safety training
  • Excellent people management, team working and relationship-building skills you'll be a confident communicator who can delegate work and mentor, support and develop others
  • An innovative approach you'll be passionate about delivering excellence and driving continuous improvement
  • Strong organisation and decision-making skills along with the ability to use planning software to plan projects
  • A willingness to take ownership we're looking for a natural leader who can be a role model for others
  • The ability to be open, honest and calm under pressure, especially when you're addressing any issues
