The Role

The Investment Office is a newly created team within NFU Mutual to manage our investment strategy and its implementation.

We are looking for a senior business consultant to join our team to :

  • Collaborate with the Chief Investment Strategist in delivering the administration, governance and the business operations of the Investment Office
  • Design, structure and oversee the investment vehicles required for NFUM’s external assets to ensure regulatory compliance, operational effectiveness and tax efficiency.
  • Job Specification

  • Oversee and liaise with external service providers including investment platforms, investment managers, administrators, custodians and depositaries, tax advisors, lawyers and auditors for NFUM’s externally managed assets.
  • Demonstrate commercial awareness and consideration of the business context to achieve the best outcome for our customers.

  • Participate and document all relevant governance forums and meetings. Follow up on action points and circulate decision logs and minutes as required to provide effective oversight and supervision of the investment strategy.
  • Collaborate with Audits, Compliance, second line and third line functions to design and maintain documentation and controls as required, to ensure adherence to all required standards and policies.
  • Evaluate best practices within the investment management context to improve the business effectiveness of the Investment Office.
  • Ensure compliance with group policies and best practices by contributing to the development, implementation and monitoring of overall procedures.

  • Manage projects and deliver projects and activities as required by and to the standards and outcomes agreed with Chief Investment Strategist.
  • The projects may be short-term / one-off or may require multiple diverse strands, objectives and teams. Ensure work is integrated across teams and that the work produced meets product / service standards and quality standards to achieve the specified business objective of the Investment Office.

  • Represent the Investment Office at various NFUM forums and, as required, externally; to ensure effective participation in larger organisational and industry initiatives.
  • Maintain and oversee mandates and regulatory matters relevant to the provision of investment management services to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Manage effective relationships with internal stakeholders across NFUM Finance and Tax specialists, Group Legal, Middle Office and Back Office.
  • Work across different parts of the organisation to oversee proper implementation of the investment strategy.

    Person Specification

    Prior experience in administration and business management in a commercially focussed / operational role.

    Knowledge of legal, regulatory and tax environment for investment management is preferable.

    Strong stakeholder management and communication skills with experience in building and managing effective relationships at a senior level.

    Experience in delivering a range of projects and activities.

    Qualifications / Other

    Relevant undergraduate degree and / or professional qualification.
