Responsibilities A Senior Project Manager at DIO will :

  • Provide leadership and senior intelligent client interface in the management of industry partners, selected through various procurement mechanisms to deliver projects on behalf of DIO in line with MOD processes, procedures and contractual terms and conditions.
  • Apply proactive contract management to maintain a productive working relationship with industry partners and suppliers, monitoring their performance in terms of quality, time, cost and reliability.
  • Drive optimal delivery and promptly manage emerging issues to avoid programme delays or cost escalation.

  • Manage financial performance of projects within agreed tolerances to control expenditure against approved project budgets and provide accurate financial reporting and forecasting to senior management.
  • Undertake project assurance and reviews across the portfolio at key stages to evaluate progress, compliance and probability of delivery to provide confidence to senior management, customers and key stakeholders.
  • Work as part of an integrated project team, ensuring that costs within the approvals process are robust and ensure that contracts are managed to deliver value for money for Defence.
  • Support customers to manage and maintain project approvals and deliver within your delegated authority.

  • Work with the Assistant Head MP4 (Major Projects team in the South of England) to develop a working environment and ways of working to achieve a high performing team ethos within project teams and is accountable for ensuring adherence and conformity to all agreed DIO processes and operating procedures and particularly those which are detailed under key infrastructure process.

  • Travel Requirements There will be a requirement for regular travel throughout the South West of England and beyond to support project delivery (including visiting construction sites at MOD establishments), departmental initiatives and training.

    There may be a requirement to work regularly from alternative locations which following assessment may be determined as Dual Workplaces under HMRC guidelines.

    Essential Experience

  • Experience of building and maintaining positive relations and networks with customers, internal and external stakeholders, partners and colleagues.
  • Desirable Experience & Skills

  • Qualification
  • A recognised construction qualification (at least NVQ Level 5, Higher Education Diploma or higher in a construction, infrastructure or engineering related discipline).
  • Membership
  • Membership (or working towards) of a professional body or institution (e.g.
  • APM, ICE, RICS, RIBA, CIOB or equivalent).

  • Experience
  • Proven project management experience within an estates / construction / engineering / technology industry delivering major programmes and projects to a high standard.
  • Experience
  • Experience delivering construction projects in a client-s representative role and have some background in construction consultancy and / or working for a construction contractor.
  • Licences Full UK Driving Licence Qualifications A recognised higher education qualification (at least NVQ Level 5, Higher Education Diploma or higher).

    Employment Hours The post advertised is for 37 hours net, however the Ministry of Defence offers a range of flexibilities to enable a better work-life balance for employees.
