    Nationally we are engaged in significant highways projects such as the M4 Corridor around Newport and the Forth Replacement Crossing.

    Client involvement includes Highways England frameworks such as CDF and SPaTS, the Smart Motorway Programme, and several design and build links with major contractors.

    Our expertise is also a critical component of a multidisciplinary offer on projects such as HS2 and Crossrail. Approximately 1200 staff work on highway projects in the UK each year, successfully delivering integrated, multidisciplinary projects for our clients.

    Arup Office The role is based at the Arup Campus’ in Solihull, a purpose built office which comprises over 600 people representing the full range of professional services we offer.

    You will join our growing highways team, which is more than 70 people strong and delivers a wide portfolio of work from multi million pound projects for Highways England to designing small scale junctions for developers.

    We also work as designers for contractors and advise Governments and Lenders on PPP projects. Our current projects are spread across the Midlands, the wider UK, and internationally across Europe and Africa.

    We have a strong forward workload which supports our strategy to expand the team.Opportunities also exist for experience overseas, and in related fields such as railways.

    The Arup Campus serves as Arup’s global highways skill-centre and we regularly assist our 70+ worldwide offices with highways projects.

    This can include short or long-term assignments. Role The successful candidate will join our existing engineering team to support in the delivery of high profile highway and infrastructure projects. The work will involve :

  • Preparation and modification of 2D and 3D model / reference files
  • Preparation and modification of plans / drawings
  • Conversion between different file formats
  • Ensuring drawing compliance with internal (and Client) CAD systems and standards
  • Checking and reviewing drawings to ensure QA processes are followed and CAD standards are maintained
  • Working alongside engineers and discipline leaders within multi-disciplinary design teams
  • Maintaining effective relationships with key people
  • Working with minimal supervision, paying close attention to detail and reporting to the CAD Manager / Design lead, as required
  • Mentoring junior team members
  • Actively participating in Continual Improvement
  • Requirements and skills Essential Skills and Knowledge

  • Full Working knowledge of Bentley MicroStation V8i (SS3 preferable)
  • Experience of working on highways and infrastructure projects in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Good verbal communication skills / open and approachable nature
  • Be self-motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Qualifications :

  • HNC or equivalent
  • Conversant with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Desirable skills and knowledge :

  • Knowledge of Bentley ProjectWise Explorer (SS4 preferable)
  • An understanding of BS1192 workflow and the requirements concerning co-ordination of large numbers of drawing and model file sets
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD or Civil 3d (as 3rd Party input may be in DWG format)
  • Knowledge of Bentley InRoads SS2, InRoads SS4 (OpenRoads) or OpenRoads designer
  • Experience of GIS
  • Experience of virtual design review software e.g. AutoDesk Navisworks and / or Bentley Navigator
