Job description

As a Legal Counsel for this vacancy you will be responsible for :

  • With support from senior lawyers, developing and applying technical knowledge and judgment to advise PRA supervisors and policy-
  • makers (initially relating to insurers and banks) on less complex legal issues, ensuring that agreed outcomes and timescales are met and that legal risk is adequately identified, managed and mitigated.

  • Working openly and collaboratively in teams within IDT and the Legal Directorate, and with relevant business areas and external bodies.
  • With support from senior lawyers, delivering viable and credible solutions to less complex legal issues in a manner suited to the audience and focussed on outcomes which help the Bank to achieve its objectives.
  • Routinely observing the Bank’s document and record management protocols.
  • Investing time in developing their own technical knowledge to develop expertise in the prudential regulation of banks and insurers.
  • Contributing willingly to the implementation of strategic initiatives and demonstrating the Bank’s values at all times.
  • Minimum Criteria

  • Qualified lawyer, ideally with at least 5 years’ PQE
  • Experience in advising on public law, European law or financial services law and awareness of the legal issues faced by financial institutions.
  • Essential Criteria

  • Excellent legal analytical and drafting skills.
  • Excellent legal risk awareness, evaluation and management skills including an ability to create solutions and deliver pragmatic outcome-
  • focussed judgements that take account of the business environment.

  • Ability to represent views and build relationships across the Legal Directorate and with, internal and external stakeholders.
  • A willingness and the ability to develop expertise in new technical areas, and to do so quickly, seamlessly, and to a consistent high standard.
  • Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of advising on insurance law.
  • Experience of prudential regulation (including the PRA’s judgement based approach).
