Role Summary :

To create and maintain outstanding embedded software solutions for our global customers, working with a small specialist team and utilizing the power of synchrophasor technology to solve major Energy Industry challenges.

Essential Responsibilities :

  • Design and implement software of embedded devices and systems from requirements to production and commercial deployment
  • Design, develop, integrate and test proprietary and third-party communication stacks, such as IEC61850, MODBUS, IEC60870-
  • 5-104, DNP3 and other power industry protocols

  • Analyze and enhance efficiency, stability and scalability of embedded system resources, continuously work to optimize embedded HW and SW performance
  • Integrate and validate new application designs as provided by the team of Power System Domain Experts
  • Support Domain Experts in creating new applications using Matlab / Simulink -based development workflow, maintain automatic C++ code generation scripts
  • Provide required support and maintenance to the Operations team, resolving defects in released embedded products
  • Interface with hardware design and development teams, both within GE and outsourced
  • Assess third party and open source software
  • Contribute to the commercial delivery of power system control projects, utilizing IEC61131-3 PLC programming language on the embedded SW platform
  • Perform such other tasks as are consistent with the position and in support of the Head of your team
  • Act in the best interests of GE at all times
  • Qualifications / Requirements :

  • Graduate with degree (2 : 1 or above) in electrical / electronic engineering, computing or a related discipline
  • Excellent programming skills in C and C++
  • Experience of Embedded System Development
  • Experience in both Linux and Windows environments would be an advantage
  • A working understanding of Power System protection, control and / or operation
  • Excellent understanding of power system and automation protocols such as IEC 61850, DNP3.0, IEC 60870-5-104 and / or IEEE C37.118
  • Proven experience in developing real-time software for Power Systems applications
  • Excellent knowledge of IEC61131-3 PLC (Programmable Language Controller) language for SCADA applications, including ST and FBD standards
  • Experience with Matlab / Simulink, demonstrable skills in developing production quality applications using these tools
  • Working knowledge of automated code generation and testing workflow from Mathworks
  • Excellent communication skills
  • To be pro-active and able to work autonomously
  • Work well with others within a team
  • Manage time effectively and work to deadlines
  • Strong relevant experience
  • UK travel may be required
