The re-organisation of the Internal Audit function has resulted in the alignment of specialist auditors with specific skill sets such as Actuarial and IT to work directly as part of each market’s audit team rather than in a separate, horizontal pool of specialists.
As a result, a vacancy has arisen for a General insurance actuary to work in the Audit Team. Role purpose : The Audit team’s purpose is to help the Board and Executive Management protect the assets, reputation and sustainability of Aviva.
We join the dots between risk and control and the execution of strategy to serve our customers. In order to do that, our team delivers a plan of audit work which assesses and reports on the efficiency of the control environment to manage the key risks to Aviva.
This plan covers all risk types including technical finance and insurance risks, for which actuarial expertise is required.
Duties & Responsibilities You will support the development and lead the delivery of the audit plan through a deep and broad understanding of the risks facing the business for the area of responsibility including additional ad hoc / bespoke audit work as requested.
Audit Reviews Managing a portfolio of audit reviews and leading technical or complex reviews where appropriate, ensuring overall delivery is to the required standard Delivering and managing the timely production of high-quality concise findings, audit issues and audit reports Undertaking timely and robust issue tracking to ensure issues raised are appropriately remediated Partner and relationship management at a management level within the business Ensure audit engagement objectives are met Ensuring quality control in the portfolio of reviews in line with the Audit methodology.
Committee reports Contributing to the production of reports to Internal Audits key partners (e.g. Audit Committees, Risk Committees, and Board Committees etc) and through these influencing management actions to deliver a more effective controls framework Methodology - Ensuring the appropriate application, and contributing to ongoing development of, the Internal Audit methodology Continual Improvement - Identifying areas for improvement in the operation of the audit team In addition to relevant actuarial skills, you will be a great collaborator and teammate, with a positive, proactive approach and able to work in a team of mixed skills and backgrounds.
Key is that you are able to look at the big picture, understand the impact of your findings on the wider business and be able to communicate technical issues and impacts clearly to non-technical audiences.
You must also be able to effectively project manage your workload with minimal direct supervision and contribute to a positive and encouraging environment.
Skills & Experience required Professional actuarial qualification or equivalent business experience required Technical Financial Risk / Insurance / asset management product / market knowledge Regulation Risk Identification and measurement Relevant technical expertise in financial, insurance or market risk either within an audit firm or consulting firm in the financial services department OR insurance / asset management company or financial institution or regulation institution Experience in leading complex projects / reviews, leading small-medium teams and negotiation situations Experience in managing the senior level relationships and influencing their behaviour What will you get for this role?
