Research and Enterprise Office
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Research and Enterprise Office (REO) at the University of Essex, in a new post as Research Development Manager for our Faculty of Science and Health.
The post-holder will provide support to our research community across the faculty, with a focus on AI, robotics, data science and related research fields, and will work closely with other members of the Research Development team to support the development of cross-
faculty research proposals.
The role and duties
The successful candidate will join a lively and friendly team of 60 professionals in the REO, working to enable research development, knowledge exchange and impact, engagement with businesses, and having institutional research planning and governance responsibilities.
The REO supports and enables excellent research with impact to be conducted within this world-leading research intensive university, which is proud to be both top 20 for research excellence (REF 2014), and Gold rated in the Teaching Excellence Framework (2017).
Skills and qualifications required
The post holder will support the delivery of the University's strategic research objectives, working with academics, REO management team and other REO and Professional Services colleagues, to ensure that research proposals are of the highest quality and competitiveness, enable successful interdisciplinary and collaborative research projects, ensure the University responds effectively to emerging agendas and opportunities, develop and maintain productive working relationships with funders, partners and other external stakeholders, and support researcher development across all career stages.
The successful candidate will be educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline and have experience of the research development process and preparing proposals for a range of different research funders, coupled with knowledge of the current research funding landscape and a good understanding of the UK research policy context.
They will have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships across the University and with external stakeholders.
