About insert Department name TheEconomic Scenario Development team develops economic scenarios for Group-wideregulatory stress testing required by the Bank of England, EBA, the estimationof provisions under IFRS9 accounting standards, Medium Term Planning andInternal Stress Testing exercises.

Economic Scenario team is responsible for all scenario related activitiesnamely : scenario generation / expansion, narrative, overlays, stakeholdermanagement (internal / external), scenario governance and the management ofend-

to-end processes & controls.

Overall purposeof role

Provide supportto the Scenario Expansion Team and play a key role in delivering all processrelated tasks to a high standard for the IFRS 9 accounting standards, Regulatory, Medium Term Planning andInternal Stress Test scenario expansions.

Key Accountabilities

He / she will work closely with the 1 senior VP and 1Director supporting them on their analysis of the output of the scenarioexpansion model.

He / she will provide support for the following tasks :

  • Contributing to the design of IFRS9 and internal stresstest scenario narrative and constraints
  • Sourcing and verifying data, maintaining an up-to-date database,develop and run data processing code (gap fills, identifying outliers, errorsetc.)
  • Analyse and review scenario outputs before sendingto SMEs for further review and challenge
  • Publishthe full scenario to all stakeholders as part of the stress test instructions forthe IFRS 9 monthly process
  • Engage with stakeholders at all levels across the group (in both business and Group Centre functions) with regards to timelines and requirements and in line with Group scenario expansion operating model and communicate on a timely basis.
  • Prepare high quality presentations for senior management and regulators.
  • Identify opportunities and support improvements in data, process, modelling and reporting for scenario expansion
  • Manage the change control process in line with governance and control requirements
  • Contribute in the preparation of presentations for the team, QAand senior stakeholders.
  • Compliance and Controls Analyst : tasks include supporting controlenvironment by operating checks and controls as per ES Op Manual, including SOXcontrols, liaising with Internal and External Auditors on control effectiveness
  • Contributing in the design of requirements for the newInternal Expansion model.
  • StakeholderManagement and Leadership

    This role requires a significant amount of interaction with seniorstakeholders in QA, Senior Management in Risk, Finance and Treasury across allBarclays legal entities.

    He / she will also be exposed to valuable interactions with contributorsto the various economic scenario narratives (primarily internal stress test)such as Barclays IB economists, strategists and traders.

    Decision-makingand Problem Solving

    This role requires a good understanding ofhow markets function and the interactions between all the macro economic andmarket variables.

    He / she will be working in a very fast pace environment and willbe expected to contribute by proposing solutions to model short-

    comings as wellas ways to improve efficiency in the economic scenarios process and enhancing existingsystems.

    Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out infull compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk ManagementFramework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards.


  • Graduate levelqualification in a highly numerate discipline (Maths / scientific background or economist / Econometricswith at least 4 years of proven trackrecord in banking (market risk, treasury or related area)
  • Soundknowledge and understanding of macroeconomic principles, market risk andfunding
  • Stronganalytical ability
  • Good codingknowledge and experience of using Excel, R, VBA, C++
  • Goodunderstanding of a bank’s activities, balance sheet and associated risks.
  • Strongstakeholder and project management skills
  • Excellentcommunication skills, both written and oral
