Due to growth of our business, we are looking for an Innovation Officer to join our Innovation team. Reporting to the Innovation Business Manager you will work closely with senior members of the Innovation and R&D teams to evaluate intellectual property matters, evaluate technology disclosures, to process agreements and term sheets pertaining to Horizon Discovery IP, and support business development and in-

and out-licensing activities.

Ideally you will have experience of working with IP, dealing with contracts pertaining to licences, collaborative research agreement and feel confident discussion genetics, molecular biology, immunology or bioinformatics.

Key activities :

  • Assist in evaluating scientific discoveries, particularly with respect to intellectual property issues (eg. patentability and freedom to operate), in relation to new technologies and technologies under development
  • Assist in processing and interpreting legal agreements such as Licence agreements, Collaborative Research Agreements, MTAs, commercialisation agreements, CDAs / NDAs
  • searching patent databases and scientific literature for relevant prior art and freedom to operate information
  • drafting decision support documents and co-presents cases at internal IP Committee decision meetings
  • Assist in structuring negotiating deals including license agreements, R&D partnerships and the creation of venture capital financed enterprises
  • Qualifications and Skills :

  • PhD or equivalent in Life Sciences experience in genetics, molecular biology or immunology
  • Ability to understand commercial agreements, licences and IP processes and procedures
  • Ability to understand patent specifications
  • Ability to distil key information from complex sources
  • Ability to communicate highly technical information to targeted audiences
  • Understanding of the UK Grant System
  • Additional experience of technology evaluation or negotiation within the IP arena is advantageous. Successful candidates will need to be highly motivated, driven, team player with excellent communication skills, attention to detail and excellent record keeping.
