Overall purposeof role

To provide training in assistive technology (software and hardware) to disabled people and those with specific learning difficulties (including dyslexia, AD(H)D, Asperger's, autism, dyscalculia, dysgraphia and dyspraxia) in both education and in the work place.

Following an initial consultation with the end user, training will be delivered according to their individual needs so as to fully benefit from the technology provided.

Main duties andresponsibilities

  • Undertake initial short assessment in order to establish specific requirements of the individual appropiate to their disability and environment.
  • Train client on how to use specific software or hardware reccomended in referral according to individual's specific requirements.
  • Ability to learn new assistive software and hardware as required.
  • Deliver training according to The Learning Support Centre guidelines and code of conduct to ensure training is delivered effectively
  • Attend any relevant training or meetings and have the ability to develop existing skills
  • Always be punctual with a flexible approach to working hours is required
  • Manage paperwork effectively, accurately and promptly
  • Maintain a high standard of presentation whilst representing The Learning Support Centre
  • Confidentiality should be respected to agreed disclosure levels
  • Inform The Learning Support Centre of any problems you are having that are either work related or effect your work, we can then help you come to a satisfactory conclusion or adapt your work to support your situation.
  • To undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required by The Learning Support Centre Ltd.
  • Essential Skills, Knowledge & Experience

    Qualifications

  • Educatedto degree level
  • GCSE English and Maths, C or Above
  • Teaching Qualification (PGCE, PTLLS, DTLLS, City & Guilds 7303 or equivalent)
  • Experience

  • Experience in teaching or training computer software and hardware
  • Experience in teaching or training computer software and hardware in the educational setting and in the workplace on a 1 : 1 basis or to small groups
  • Experience of working with disabled people or people with specific learning differences
  • Experience in teaching or training on assistive software and hardware eg : Inspiration, Mind Manager Pro, Dragon Naturally Speaking, textHELP Read & Write, typing tutors, various dictionaries, Dolphin, Zoomtext, JAWS, Claroread.
  • Digital voice recorders, scanning pens, personal organisers, electronic dictionaries, Alphasmart. Also MS Office suite.

  • Able to assess learner’s needs and devise an appropriate Individual Learning Plan (ILP)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Deliver training to suit learner’s individual needs
  • Able to learn new assistive software and hardware
  • Confidence in working independently with learners
  • Takes a logical approach to problem solving and pays close attention to detail
