About the role

The staffing department will recruit 4500 leaders, mentors, practitioners and other staff to work on the NCS with The Challenge spring, summer and autumn programmes in 2018.

The purpose of the role is to oversee staffing across a recruitment area of London South East, based in the Waterloo Office.

This involves the entire staffing process : attraction, screening, assessment, communication, assigning staff to roles, DBS and reference take-

up and payroll. The key indicators of your success are (a) filling roles across your geographical area, (b) feedback from APMs on the quality of summer staff and (c) feedback from summer staff on the quality of their experience of staffing.

The Staffing Manager has specific people management, regional strategy, project management and overall delivery objectives.

These will be formalised in the post holder’s PDR (Personal Development review) and discussed at weekly meetings with the Senior Staffing Manager to whom this role reports.

About the opportunity The Staffing Manager’s primary responsibilities are :

  • Staff Management : Managing all team members in a zone, each with specific responsibilities for recruiting different roles.
  • In some regions, Staffing Managers will also be required to manager a Staffing Associate Manager who is responsible for the management of a staff team in one of our smaller zones.

  • Ensuring that the team are always clear about their goals, are able to approach you with their concerns, are highly motivated and receive regular feedback.
  • Staff Management :

  • Staffing Delivery : Responsible for overseeing zonal performance for an entire recruitment area. Ensuring that your Associates are meeting agreed monthly targets for (a) attraction visits, (b) applications for roles, (c) assessment outcomes, (d) filling roles, (e) communication deadlines and (f) DBS and reference completion.
  • Staffing Delivery :

  • Staffing Leadership team : To play a full and active role in the national leadership team for the Staffing department.
  • Ensuring that staffing teams are working well across regions and nationally by supporting the sharing of best practice and by identifying and solving problems as soon as they arise.

    Contributing to the development and implementation of the department’s strategic plans and ensuring that we are continually improving the service we provide.

    Staffing Leadership team :

  • Budget management : . Managing the budget for all staffing issues within the zone.
  • Budget management :

  • National Lead : Taking the national lead on a number of aspects of the staffing journey to ensure continual improvement and efficient implementation.
  • For example, assessment quality or logistics, relationship management, allocation, compliance or feedback..

    National Lead :

  • Local Leadership Team : Representing a regional section of staff at The Challenge, taking an active part in local decision-
  • making, regarding office management and team communications.

    Local Leadership Team : We are looking for exceptional candidates with the following experience and characteristics : Essential

  • Project management experience of delivering high-pressure, complex projects
  • Experience managing and motivating teams of people in a challenging environment
  • High-level oral communication skills to build internal and external relationships
  • Experience setting direction, allocating responsibilities to ensure successful delivery and monitoring quality and targets during delivery.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and demanding environment
  • Outstanding organisational skills and commitment to detail
  • Positive, flexible approach to problem-solving
  • Interest in building stronger communities and seeing change in society
