Principal PHP Software Engineer
Location - Durham (North East England)

The overall purpose of the role is to efficient delivery of innovative, configurable and high quality IT solutions required to support our evolving business roadmap.
You will be a technology expert within the CI team. Who leads end to end design and delivery of business initiatives from inception, supporting business case all the way through to workable software in the hands of our people and customers allowing actual benefits realisation
Supporting the team in there analysis, design, delivery of best in class solutions for our frontline teams working in the Customer Interactions Team.
You will oversee and help development activities owning the end to end Development life cycle to ensure the timely delivery of products and services through innovation and efficiencies.
You will take an active role in wider direction around best practise development to product evolution around patterns and technology, wider reuse.
Owning the Design and alignment to underlying technology and the architectural landscape we operate in. Work closely with internal customers and external support organisations and our wider Technology teams to enable collaboration cross the business and technical teams.
Provide effective coaching and support on both Technical best practises but also direction setting for Senior Software engineers to support the development of the overall teams’ people, skills and services.
What you'll be doing
IT Frontline Technology is accountable for design, development, delivery, support and evolution of customer interaction, customer contact and Retail systems, solutions and portfolios that meet strategic and business objectives.
Help evolve and maintain Agile delivery within the team to ensure we maintain close connection with our customers and company roadmaps.
Responsible for evaluation of demands and definition of Systems and Services, offer evolution alternatives.
Drive a reduction in exiting architectural complexity, aiding stability, reduced end to end support challenges through innovation and technology choices and evolution of systems designs and feature sets.
Provide technical and capacity modelling guidance to Vendors and work with suppliers to meet business requirements with cost effective standardised solutions, reducing rework.
Accountable for end to end design (including Feasibility) through acceptance test to launch
Drive high level of configurability and accuracy with Continuous integration methodologies and efficient software packages / releases
Providing long-term new capabilities to support business using standard solutions where available.
Develop Business Cases for projects, Impacts, Initial Evaluations and Feasibility, engage appropriate IS and Business departments and teams
Help generate a culture of continuous improvement and add value and contribute to reduction in delivery timescales.
Help advice the business on the roadmap and the most efficient out of the box solutions where available and help explore new opportunities.
Delivering the required IT solutions with short time to market wherever possible through out of the box configuration rather than programming when available.
Feed into Vendor product Roadmaps to meet future functionality with out of the box solutions.
Advising the business on the roadmaps and the most efficient solutios to problems
Lead the convergence of frontline systems to provide true reuse or most effective channels and solutions that maximize the business efficiency and ruse across our lines of business.
Being able to offer solutions to bridge gaps when opportunities arise that need a quick response and a fast turnaround, while still delivering strategic solutions in parallel without compromise.

Must have :
Previously held a Senior software engineer position(s) ideally in an Agile, customer focused delivery team.
Extensive Development experience of building web applications, preferably for customer focused services to using web service architecture.
Uses defined tools, templates and standards to design, create and test simple, well-engineered systems.
Full understanding of Design, code, test, correct and document, programs that assist in the implementation of software which forms part of a fully engineered information or communications system.
Lead code reviews of supplied specifications with others as appropriate
Excellent requirements analysis and technical design skills.
Excellent technical writing, presentation and communication skills
Excellent planning and time-management skills
Experience of working to tight deadlines in a technical environment.
Ability to manage changing business and technical requirements
Experience of fast paced business environment
Experience of managing relationships with internal business customers, and of understanding and planning for the delivery of agreed solutions to meet mutual; business needs.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a methodical and structured approach, good documentation skills and attention to detail
Nice to have :
Degree in appropriate subject area (or equivalent)
Experience of developing web applications for a citrix environment.
Common frameworks Zend / Symfony / Spring / Bootstrap / Angular
Experience of ASP, C#.NET, VB.NET, Java (J2EE, JSP), MS-SQL, Oracle.
Knowledge of Frontline technologies.
Experience of commonly used integration technologies, such as Web Services, etc.
Knowledge of databases and reporting technologies.
Strong experience of working with software suppliers and third-party development partners, of product / package selection, and of supporting those products into a production Environment.
Experience of third line product or service support.
Experience of solution integration.
Communications and messaging technologies experience of real-time telecommunications service design, call centre voice and data systems, protocols
Proven ability to manage changing business and technical requirements
Strong Experience of working directly with wider business counterparts to efficiently deliver complex changes or process improvements which add value to our products and services
