About the role :

The IT Systems Manager is responsible for efficient running of the NLA’s IT infrastructure and associated systems so that each end-

user is able to efficiently and effectively utilise the systems they require 24 / 7 in order to do their job.

Responsibilities :

  • Design, develop, implement and coordinate IT systems, policies and procedures
  • Ensure security of data, network access, backup systems, information security and control structures
  • Manage annual budgets, contracts, procurements and ensure cost effectiveness
  • Providing ad-hoc user support requests and for system failures
  • Take responsibility for the smooth running of the existing infrastructure by ensuring adequate support is deployed
  • Managing all IT partners & contracts ensuring each is delivering as required and value for money is obtained from each by renegotiating or retendering as necessary
  • Developing an IT plan, approved by SLT, which covers the plans to develop and / or replace existing on premises systems
  • Recommend to SLT policies, procedures and control mechanisms to manage NLA data and information
  • Ensure NLA system are compliant, or able to comply with regulation or legislation, for example the GDPR
  • Ensure staff are adequately trained on the use of the NLA infrastructure, its IT policies and procedures
  • Ensure security of data, network access, backup systems, information security and control structures
  • Ensure that NLA systems are secure and protected from attacks by ensuring that they are patched and updated to recommended levels
  • Ensure staff are adequately advised and trained to make them aware of their role in security and data privacy and what they need to do to comply with legislation and company policy
  • Ensure sufficient backup, business continuity and disaster recovery provision is made to protect the NLA in the event of a system outage
  • Ensure that IT usage is appropriately controlled and monitored within the organisation to prevent misuse, abuse or illegal activity being perpetrated by staff or contractors
  • Manage annual budgets, contracts and ensure cost effectiveness
  • Monitor expenditure and manage within an agreed budget, set at the start of the year based on a discussion with SLT and incorporating their plans
  • Maintain IT contracts on the NLA contracts register and ensure sufficient notice of a forthcoming contract end date is regarded to consider retendering or replacement options
  • Ensure the NLA receives value for money from its contracts by monitoring the marketplace and renegotiating where appropriate
  • About you :

  • Degree level or similar such as BS in Computer Science or similar
  • Proven working experience as an IT manager
  • Excellent knowledge of technical management, information analysis and of computer hardware / software systems
  • Experience managing VoIP phone systems, data centre management and data governance
  • Experience in cloud computing and commissioning software as a service
  • Hands-on experience with computer networks, network administration and network installation
  • Excellent written, numerical and verbal communication skills
