About the role

BWB Consulting has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineer to be based in our Birmingham office.

Working on challenging and multiple projects simultaneously, you will be proficient in undertaking most aspects of preliminary and detailed design of public highways including geometry, earthworks, drainage, pavements and other elements of highway schemes.

The appointment will be to the Birmingham Transport & Infrastructure Design team. You will assist with maintaining the balance of skills and experience within the Birmingham Transport & Infrastructure Design team and take a leading internal role in the design of technically challenging projects and you will contribute to the development of technical knowledge in the use of key design software.

  • The position is for an individual who we expect will be fully conversant with industry standard design software packages;
  • preferably Civil 3D (although extensive experience in the use of MXRoads, OpenRoads or PDS would be considered as long as there is a willingness to train on Civil 3D) and Microdrainage, and who takes an active interest in the implementation and development of design standards and emerging technology.

    The right candidate must be capable of working independently in producing drawn details of their design work in the form of AutoCAD drawings for regulatory approval and construction.

    You must also demonstrate an aptitude, and preferably an ability, to effectively delegate design responsibility to others and act in a mentoring role to less experienced staff.

    We are also looking for an aptitude or capabilities in an outward facing capacity as BWB’s representative in dealings with our clients on Technical Matters.

    You will be expected to have the following personal attributes and skills :

  • You will have strong IT skills in the use of above mentioned technical software, Microsoft Office applications and AutoCAD combined with a practical approach.
  • You will also be able to demonstrate ability to work well in a team environment whilst also having personal initiative.

  • You will be able to show that you have strong communication, management and personal effectiveness skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels.
  • We expect that candidates will need to have at least five years relevant industry experience.
