Partnerships and Regeneration :

Purpose of the role :
The Temporary Works Design Engineer will be responsible for the design and / or checking of temporary works schemes for both contract and tender teams.
Key Accountabilities :
Production of designs, calculations, specifications, drawings, sketches and documents and / or checks of temporary works design / schemes
Contribute to winning work by providing strong technical support to tenders by identifying innovative and cost effective strategies and solutions
Ensure design risks are considered and prepare design risk assessments
Lead design assurance on projects through conducting audits and regular meetings with the engineering and project teams, identifying best practice, areas for improvement and areas of concern
Develop and maintain relationships with relevant technical consultants and suppliers, managing their input in the design, development, pricing and delivery of technical solutions on site and tenders
Exercise designer obligation of the Construction (Design and Management) regulations
Assist in the administration of the company and departmental procedures as required
Assist with the development of Graduates
Liaison with clients / site staff / subcontractors and proprietary suppliers and the delivery of schemes to deliver schemes to time and to budget
Production of a suite of Standard Design Solutions for Temporary Works
Audit compliance on Temporary Works including support and continuous monitoring with Project Teams
Person Specification : Competency Requirements
Candidates should have excellent IT, analytical and communication skills, be enthusiastic, flexible and able to work within a busy team and under pressure.
A knowledge of technical excellence
History of site experience would be an advantage
Strategic and creative insight to understand the range of opportunities and be able to challenge the norm
Commitment, dedication and a strong work ethic
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, an ability to form effective relationships.
Worked in a design office for either a consultant, contractor or temporary works equipment supplier (essential)
Technical / Professional Expertise and Qualifications Required
CEng MICE or MIStructE (or equivalent) with proven experience in Temporary Works design, both routine and complex
Strong knowledge of common engineering analysis and design software, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Software. Experience in BIM technologies and Sketch-
up is desirable Strong interpersonal and communication skills, an ability to form effective relationships An understanding of structural mechanics (essential)
An understanding of geotechnical engineering (essential)
Scaffolding - access and egress, Lifting, jacking and sliding of structural elements
Research and background reading of ongoing developments in Codes of Practice and analytical methods relating to permanent and temporary works
Experience of both above and below ground temporary works designs
Ability to interpret, analyse and critique subcontractor temporary works designs
Experienced on projects with interface with Network Rail, London Underground, Transport for London, Dockland’s Light Railway
