High quality design and placemaking sit at the heart of Croydon’s ambitiousvision and work is already underway on the delivery of an ambitious programmeof regeneration projects led by both the council and private sectors partners.

This includes the revival of central Croydon and the borough’s District Centres,delivery of the Council’s Growth Zone, including significant public realmimprovements and high profile mixed-

use developments across the borough.

The post offers an exciting opportunity for an experiencedand motivated architect and / or urban designer to work with the Spatial PlanningService, which brings together Croydon’s placemaking and plan making teams toprovide a coordinated approach to planning, design and delivery of Croydon’sfuture development and projects.

About the role

You will work within the Placemaking Team of the SpatialPlanning Service - recognised as one of the most progressive placemaking teamsin the UK.

The Planning Directorate has recently been shortlisted as the RTPILocal Planning Authority of the Year. In the role you will work within anaward-

winning team of placemaking professionals with backgrounds inarchitecture, planning, urban design, conservation and landscape architecture.

You will contribute your design skills and experience toassist the delivery of Croydon’s spatial planning framework; you will providedesign advice as part of the Council’s own projects, regeneration plans, andcritically will take a leading role working closely with developers and theirdesign teams providing proactive design critique and input to shaping developmentproposals through the Council’s development management pre-application process.

You will work collaboratively with colleagues across the Council, andespecially with those in the Place Department. You will be expected to maintainand further build on the high standard of work and reputation with whichCroydon’s Spatial Planning Service and Placemaking Team has become associated.

You will demonstrate experience in the delivery of highquality urban design and a thorough understanding of delivering high qualitythrough the planning system.

You are expected to have a degree in a related fieldand expertise in designing and delivering high quality urban design projects aswell as experience of spatial planning, urban design, complex negotiations andworking with local government.

You will be a strategic thinker who also has aneye for detail. You will be both creative and pragmatic. In addition to theperson specification, you will be driven to work in a collaborative environmentand will be highly motivated and able to prioritise a varied and challengingwork programme.
