Why this role matters

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced IP Design professional to join our RoI team. Based in Dublin, this role supports our main core IP / MPLS networks.

Your role is a key design team member who will assist BT maintain the highest network standards in terms of quality and innovation.

You will help develop the BT core network and core platforms from their current architecture to the next generation network deployments, contributing to customer’s designs and solutions.

You'll lead innovation to bring new ideas and products to the market quickly and efficiently and before our competitors.

What you'll be doing

You'll be joining the Network Design team in BT Ireland supporting the IP / MPLS and ISP Core, with an emphasis on the Network Security, Innovation and Platform Roadmaps.

Part of the role will also be introducing new products and services, encompassing Design, Testing, Documentation and Training.

In this role, you'll have responsibility for supporting Design, Testing and Validation, Implementation and Integration and Acceptance activity, providing leadership and guidance on resolving complex technical issues, owning operational processes and ensuring support is provided to meet service level standards.

You will :

Deeply know the theory and have experience in the delivery of complex networks for carriers.

Be able to demonstrate experience implementing complex technical environments involving large network and security projects.

Have the ability to work as part of a team and have the capacity of taking on escalated issues from other team members.

Provide data expertise on the expansion and upgrade of the Core IP platforms.

Investigate, propose and implement enhancements to improve the efficiency and performance of the backbone and site networks.

Ensure a high level of security standards are maintained and operated across the network.

Keep up to date with latest networking technologies and trends including virtualization technologies like SDN and NFV and owning the overall 5 year network roadmap for designated platform.

Be responsible for peer technical reviews before deployment into service.

Actively explore areas of improvement, in order to ensure the network remains best in class.

Work on technical projects Engineer will liaise with Operations / Service Delivery teams on all new projects and be responsible as the Design Authority.

We'll also need to see these on your CV

CCIE / Nokia SRA (CCIE Security a distinct advantage) or equivalent level of expertise on routers, switches and network design and technologies obtained in network and security related roles.

Strong security experience including information assurance and ISO27001. Other Security certifications a distinct advantage.

In-depth knowledge and understanding of the working and operation of MBGP, MPLS VPNs, L3 VPN’s, VPLS, L2 tunnels over MPLS, Traffic Engineering, QOS and Inter AS VPN’s.

Strong Background in design of systems architecture & network systems (especially core).

Appetite to research test and implement new technologies.
